Orange mobile SIM, why cant it be transferred?

I'm asking this on behalf of someone having the following concern:

Why does an Orange SIM card which is presently working with no problems in an Orange Motorola v545 mobile phone NOT WORK when it is transferred in to an Orange Motorola mr602 mobile phone?

The mr602 mobile phone is a couple of years or so older than the v545, the orange SIM Card fits in both, both mobile phones are Orange Motorola labelled, both have only ever had an Orange SIM Card in them, only the newer mobile phone will recognise/work using this SIM card. Why is this?

  • hello agerto, the reason is probably becuase the newer sims are different, they hold up to 200 names&numbers and 20 texts instead of just 90 names&numbers and just 10 texts on the old sims. the older phone probably has trouble using this newer high memory sim.

    hope this helps

Just had a orange PAYG sim for a £1 of their website.

Only to test signal quality at my new address before going contract.

The Sim when activated with Orange also requires the IMEI number of the phone for full activation.

Maybe this is why the Sim works in one phone only. Because the SIM is connected to one phone via it's IMEI number.

They have said they can't prevent someone using the SIM in a different phone, so I doubt that is the reason.

Maybe the other phone is faulty?

some newer sims run at a slightly different voltage to the older ones i think (not sure about orange though) so maybe that has something to do with it

What is the present voltage? My 7 year old Orange one is 3v.

I just asked Orange about cutting up that old SIM (no perforations, and it would be a pity to spoil that orchid picture) to put it in a newer phone. Sometimes it works; sometimes not. They can replace the SIM for £15 + vat. On the voltage they were a bit vague, mentioned instead different memory size, as mroneliner did, so I suspect the voltage change was longer ago.

In the OP's case, I still suspect something about the phone. When I got a spare for this old phone (mr30), it wouldn't work with this SIM for a while, but then did, and I don't know why. Maybe you could try it a few times ...
