I bought one of these recently when my daughter broke her arm- ok not as cheap as the binbag method but I reckon with 5 kids we will probably get our money's worth over time! It works a treat too.

You could get a smallish rubber glove and cut the hand off it, so it's like a tube, and then pull that on over her knee? It should be waterproof if it fits tightly enough, and it would also bend with the knee. Sounds a bit strange, I know, but I did this and found it kept the water off the stitches I had in my leg. Depends how old she is though and if you can get a small enough glove:D

Firstly dont panic if the stitches get wet, so long as the area doesnt stay wet and soggy she should be ok. Try all the above to try to keep dry and bath her with her leg over the edge of the bath for most of the bath only putting that leg in to give it a wash.

you can buy repacement dressings from pharmacys and supermarkets to be applied after her bath so you have clean child and clean dressing (again stopping the soggy dressing problem)..look for somehting like a mepore dressing, available in all sorts of sizes, the pharmacist will help you if you cant see. Ebay also do lots of them http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=mepore+dressing (sorry for long link cant do it short way)

good luck and hope she goes on ok

Thank you so much for all of your replies, your all great. I went into boots to get some new dressings ( i wanted the film type ones) but they were to small. so i decided to take her to local hospital and they cleaned the wound and changed the dressing for me so that was good. The nurse advised against a bath but suggested a shower. I will try some of the options on here later and hopefully I will have a clean and happy daughter lol

    Thanks again you guys xx

If by any chance the wound does get wet, a few moments with a hairdryer on the coolest setting will quickly dry it off - no rubbing by the towel and no touching with potentially dirty fingers.

My brother recently had stiches on his ankle (fell on a hedgetrimmer and cut his achillies, luckily just caught it else could have bee a lot worse!) and he just flannel bathed himself for the 2 weeks. Mum did offer a sponge bath but at 30 he told her where to go :P hehe.

So binliner or flannel bath :)
