Please Help- How do you turn a Samsung E700 online

Hi

My son is always downloading games, ringtones etc for his Samsung E700 phone.  I bought him a USB to Serial Port data cable to download via the PC and hopefully save him (or rather me) some money.  I have installed the drivers that came with the cable and also the Easystudio software from Samsung's website.

Now when I plug the phone in and try to use the Easystudio file manager it tells me the phone is offline.  I have the phone switched on and don't know how to change it to "online".  Can anyone help please?

open up the easystudio without the phone linked up then youll get an error message click ok then go to file (its up the top ) then go to setup and then change the com port settings to com4 then close it all down then try again with the phone linked up, i hope this helps as it did it for me

When i owned one, saw lots of places selling cables, read forums where people could not get to work.
Think it was something about cable fits into battery charger socket so not compatible.
Anyway purchased infra red device from Ebuyer worked straight away.
Still got disc with tones on, pm if you want it no charge

Thanks Duppoboy and Guy 999 for trying to help me.

I tried what you suggested Duppoboy although I was only offered COM 1, 2 or 3 there was no COM4 for me to choose. I did try what you said with the other three though. With COM1 and 3 Easystudio said the phone was offline but with COM2 it said it was "unknown" and gave an error message "SIM not initialised - please retry later". I did try later and it still didn't work.

Is there anything else I can try or is the data cable and phone incompatable as Guy999 suggests.

Maybe I would be better getting one of the infra-red things
