I like the Swiss Army Knife idea, or perhaps a Maglite. These things last forever but he will get the day to day use from it as well.Self employed and loving it

I think it would be irresponsible to give a ten year old boy a swiss army knife. What message would that be sending out?:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.
If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.

My DS loves this - he is enjoying trying to make paper baskets, practice knots etc I would strongly recommend this - you can usually get this cheaper on line.'The Dangerous Book for Boys' sounds like it may be good as it contains all sorts of ideas that he can try over many years. It may motivate him to read a little more. Its a book that can be enjoyed by males of all ages.
If you could find someone who could do a cartoonist impression of him - my DS loved this too (similar age)Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
