Talk Talk vs Tiscali

Options
Just looking for some advice on which one to go for. I am currently with Madasafish and pay them for my line rental and broadband. I am almost out of contract and so I am about to give them the 28 day notice.

I know that Talk Talk appear to get the cheaper recommendation but my figures don't really show that and I just wanted to sound out some opinion.

Talk Talk are £29.99 connection, £30 for wireless modem andd then £13.75 for 3 months and £16.99 thereafter for the evening and weekend call package. Giving £254.15 for 1 year (I know it is 18 month contract)

Tiscali are £30 connection, free wirless modem, and then £9.99 for 3 months and £14.99 thereafter for weekend calls only. This gives a 1 yr cost of £194.88. Leaving £60 to pay for evening calls for a year.

Tiscali's all calls free package works out at £254.88 for the year, a smidgeon over Talk Talk, but more free calls. This would work out more expensive long term as the ongoing monthly charge is more, but I could switch after a year with Tiscali (and then I would have a wireless modem)

Last part is switching from Madasafish to Tiscali for the phone part. Is that simple as I am not using BT?

Its my understanding that even though they could if they wanted to Tiscali will not normally accept you unless you have an actual BT Line.

" BT line required. Subject to local availability, terms and conditions, 12 month contract and fair use policy. "

Talk Talk are now more flexible.

Personally i would give both of them a wide berth.

I have just called Tiscali and they reckon there is no problem in moving the line rental over. I am not convinced they know what they are talking about though

The sales person stated that Talk and Tiscali are now the same company. I asked him to confirm that Tiscali were BT and not LLU like Talk Talk and he didn't know what I was talking about.

I would avoid Tiscali like the plague. I have tried to go with them twice (two properties) and each time I have moved away after a couple of weeks as their reliability is dire and their customer service is expensive and worse than useless.

Not just a price decision in my view.

Tiscali just like TT use LLU.Their is no reason why they cant take over line from MAAF so perhaps they have got their finger out.

Whether it is LLU or not entirely depends upon the particular exchange. Our local exchange has not yet been unbundled but Tiscali still (claim to) offer service.

Whether the paticular exchange is LLU or not they should still be able to take over the service. They do of course have a different prices for non llu exchanges.

Our exchange in not LLU but few of us in the village including me are with Tiscali bundle and line rental. After the usual hickups around the time of connection things are ok ever since.

No LLU means that we still route all of our mid week calls via 18185 (with that pesky orchid box) without any problem.

Not sure how cheap this is all compare to TT as we pay £14.99/month for BB and line rental and about £6/month for 18185.
In my book £21/month for all your communication needs is a good deal, however be assertive with Tiscali's customer services, it's the only language they understand.

I'm as assertive as it gets...but it didn't stop us having to pay over £30 in a month in call charges to their useless customer service people. It is now heading for CISAS arbitration.

Congrats. You must be the one.....

If it works, I'm sure its great. But in the nicest possible way, your post is rather pointless.

Its a bit like saying "bought a CD player from Dixons and it works. They are great."
