Carphone Warehouse - Never again!

I went into one of the Carphone warehouse branch in Manchester today. I was intended to purchase a Samsung E250 Pay as you go phone for my brother. On the board where they put the dummy phone and the price list, it was clearly stated on their board that, the phone with the O2 network will cost £29.95 plus £10 credit. But when I was at the till with the sales man, he said the phone cost £39.95. He insisted that the computer system was correct and when I pointed out the price list on board to him, he then admitted that there was a mistake, but he refused to sell me the phone at the price that they had on the board, even though he said they've made the mistake!

I don't want to make such a big deal of it, but I was a little furious with the sales man's attitude. A friend of my told me afterwards, by law the shop suppose to sell me the first price they've shown me, whether or not it was by mistake. But anyway, I have no intention to go back there again. I am just really feed up with such bad customer service skill, which seems to be very common in our high street shops these days (I have had the same experience at another high street store recently). Your friend was wrong.
They made a mistake. Nothing else. Anyone can make a mistake.
Though they have suffered far more than the loss of the tenner by the bad publicity here!0 -
The store has no legal obligation to sell at the price advertised. The advert is an invitation to trade. Many stores will honour the advert however, it helps their reputation. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Think you will find out that if it is a genuine mistake they can sell it at a higher price but must tell you. Problem is when they list at one price, sell it at another and don't say.0

Would be interesting if you went back there today and they had the same sign up.
I have seen CPW with special accessory half price offers (managers specials) whereby with the 50% off it was still more expensive than a lot of other retailers were selling at normally.
An invite to be misled more like.0 -
I would not judge them by some moron in a shop who doesn't know what day it is!
I have noticed that (some) CPW people are just pr*cks. But they are actually a very good company.0 -

Try persuading that to all of us having to sue the cpw group to get our money from them for our cashback!Took a court summons before they paid me what they owed. I will never deal with them again - some of their practices sit on the line between legal/illegal.
Based on my experience, my family and friends experience, they DO require a little push.
However you must have noticed that the cashback deals are bloody damn good compared to what you would normally pay??????
So with that in mind I think it pays (literally...) to be a bit meticulous and spend a couple of hours every 4 months to sort stuff like this out.....????
So for me the downside compared with the upside is damn fantatsic!.
I have a £200 redemtion in months 6, 12 & 18 (total £600) and I get 600 mins, 1000txt + unlimited wkend xnet calls. Costing me £30 in total for 18 months.
Now considering I'm saving £600!!!! I would:
1) Make sure at least 3 times that I have the correct deal
2) Ask at least 3 times which bills I need to send in and when
3) Just before I need to send them in, ask again to make sure of bill
4) Send the bill in and ring to see if it has been received and processed.
I always follow these 4 steps every single damn time, and I have NEVER EVER missed a cashback from CPW, e2save, OneStopPhoneShop OR The Link.
But never the less CPW is not 100% perfect, and so will screw up - but only the people that do get messed around report it, not the ones that are happy.0 -

Well you put in a good word for them!
And they do seem to manage to find a fair few to mess around.
So many of us that we have discovered they have a set routine, (including pro forma letters already to send claimants and the courts), that they go through for those that are prepared to push them all the way to court.
A decent ethical company with their so called attitude towards the customer wouldn't have all this set up - they would be horrified customers were so upset they took them to court, and were writing hundreds of posts complaining all across the web on boards like this one - but not cpw, it just seems water off a duck's back to them.0 -
Name me a company that is perfect?
None........
However CPW may mess (some) people around but my experience has always been good with them.
I can ofcourse only speak for myself. However what I CAN say is that of ALL the cashback companies CPW is the best - by far!0
