    comicm - you can always ask for the seller to forward the email order or delivery verification they have from the original ticket seller/venue so that you know you have bona fide tickets.
    Or a pic of similar proof of purchase if not an online deal. This will at least give you some piece of mind. You then have to rely on the Royal Mail....If you ask for this and nothing is forthcoming apart from excuses why they can't do this - steer clear.

    Ticket sales for 'advance' sales break the following ebay terms and conditions:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.html

    there are plenty up there currently for concerts in the New Year where tickets will be despatched two weeks before the event which is well over the 30 day despatch limit.

    Many listings also break this rule (which ebay themselves say they do not police);

    Most concert tickets sold by the big venues are not transferable (usually written on the reverse of the ticket in small letters) therefore these cannot be sold on ebay. The only gig tickets I have ever seen that do not have that clause are the small venue, university or back room gigs that are sold 'un named' but if reported these will also be removed by ebay as they don't check that these tickets are sold unrestricted.

    Even tickets like Ideal Home Exhibition tickets are clearly marked not transferable and would break ebay rules, but in my experience these are rarely reported.
