Tickets on Ebay (General observation)

I really am puzzled how Ebay appears to get away with certain legal points.

My main point is tickets for sporting events, music etc.

If I was a ticket tout stood outside a football ground asking for three times the face value I would be arrested and very likely jailed.

If I buy a ticket and put it on Ebay, then that is fine. What's the difference? If anything, the ticket touts are a far safer purchase as you get the ticket in your hand unlike Ebay where there have been many cases of people paying and not receiving the tickets - should the tickets even exist.

What do other people feel about this?

I agree. A classsic case was the Live 8 tickets. People were phoning to get them knowing that they wouldn't attend and selling them for ridculous amounts on Ebay. It was highlighted and put to an end.
I would have loved to have been there to experience the day but I'm never one of the genuine lucky ones
    I haven't got one!
  • Agreed, it is so frustrating when you phone up for England tickets, or festivals etc. and they are all gone within 2 hours...

The organisers make a big deal saying 'this is the quickest they've sold out ever' bla bla bla, but do they not realise half of them are on ebay a day later for 5 times the price?!

I had a browse on ebay tonight and you can buy world cup final tickets already. Bids are around £1000 before anybody knows whos bloody playing!!

I wonder if nothing is done because the taxman gets a slice...

There is no difference it is illegal, ebay do remove them but it usually takes them a few hours to find and remove them (manually)

quite why they can't write a script to find them I do'nt know after all England V Poland is very topical and sure to be people trying to sell it.

i just don't think ebay really try that hard. I reported a seller this week listed as UK but shipping from Canada, i wouldn't have bought if i had known that (postage is listed as 'within uk') it is misrepresentation (he is a trader) it is illegal yet ebay allow him to continue.........

Ticket sales are not allowed on ebay, many do get sold though as people don't report the sellers. I do buy tickets sometimes and estimate that about half of the auctions i bid on get pulled before they close for a breach of ebay policies.

I find it more worrying that buyers buy from sellers that don't hold the tickets and promise delivery in 8-10 weeks (or whatever), those buyers are likely to have problems as even if they pay by paypal they will be out of the chargeback time by the time the tickets are due and could lose a lot of money.

  • To be fair....I like the fact that I can go to a concert and know full well its money well spent being a few rows from the stage...The Corrs in Manchester was one of the highlights of my life. Yes you pay a bit extra but thats life! In so many other areas of life there are things that on the surface are unfair etc but if there wasnt the demand there wouldnt be the supply.

Another Corrs fan, well done. I couldn't get Corrs tickets for the UK gig on ebay as they were too expensive, but in the end I phoned Wembley and they still had tickets left so my son did get to see his favourite band.

We also won tickets to a private concert in London last Christmas, just 200 people went, that was the highlight of his life so far I think.

em ticket sales ARE allowed on ebay - why else would they have a category for them... Also selling on of tickets is not illegal - only some types of tickets are not supposed to be sold on - some are perfectly legitimately allowed to be sold on

I have bought tickets in the past before, although not sporting (well, one time was WWE wrestlig, does that count?). But what I want to know is, is there any way to check if what you have been supplied with is real or not?

I bought tickets for Disney On Ice at a slight reduction of the face value, but they are fron row seats! I'm happy to pay this because of the seats. I'm well aware you can get BOGOF on DOI tickets, but not the good ones. No use taking a 5 year old when there is 100 people in front of you! But how do I know the tickets are real??
