have you tried gardening mags0

You'll struggle unless you are an RHS member. Buying online normally saves a few quid, Tatton is by far and away the best show of the year.0

Have to slightly disagree with you mjr re Tatt 'best show of the year'.
Yes, layout is good and plants are brill. But don't buy any plants from sellers there unless it's a rare plant you really want.
Spoke to plant traders at last year's Tatt show, said pitch rent was £3000 for the 5 days so had to hike up the price of their plants - can't blame 'em!
Spoke to same traders at Southport FShow in August, plants were a third of the price - lower 'cos of pitch price.
RHS shows are good but costly.
Having said that - I'm going to Tatt tomorrow.
We should have MSE badges so we all could meet!
Carol, Sorry only just found your post. Won my tkts on local radio.
Still on the lookout for comps to win Southport/Shrewsbury FShow tickets.
Cheers, Jen:hello:
Edit, forgot to say take your own butties. Catering prices are way over the top!:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -
went for the first time to Tatton today as the forecast was good - and they got it right, it was glorious, in fact it was a bit too hot.
Two adults, one pensioner, one 16 year old and one 13 year old - cost for entry £92. If we had pre-booked we could have got it cheaper, but not by much. No concessions for pensioner and 16 year old counted as full priced adult, 13 year old got in free.
We took our own food and drink with us. However, my mum did buy three cokes, an apple juice and a coffee and got 2p change out of a tenner! And a magnum classic cost £2.20! Don't you just get fed up of being ripped off!
Having said that we had a good time - floral marquee was great, we had great debates and arguments about the show gardens and back to back gardens and loved the floral bedding displays done by the councils and authorities.
I do prefer Southport though, I think there is much more choice and the prices are cheaper.Books - the original virtual reality.

I am going tomorrow, thanks for the tips will definitely take a picnic basket! Is there somewhere to picnic? Should I take a blanket? Also is the parking worth it or should we park somewhere and catch public transport in?0
-
The parking is safe, secure, well organised and very convenient. Worth it if you are going to picnic outside the show in the grounds of Tatton Park and it you find that you've bought more plants and nick-nacks than you'd anticipated.
Some friends have been over the past couple of days. They tell me that the shopping and eating areas have expanded while the show gardens and exhibitions have reduced considerably. One reckons that the non-commercial exhibitions are a THIRD of the size of last year.0 -
I really enjoyed it. It was well organised and traffic was not a problem.
I think though that considering that the majority of the experience is SHOPPING, the tickets are vastly overpriced.0 -
We went a few years ago. I agree that ticket prices are completely overpriced and so I'm not going this year. I remember the plants not being cheap either. Might go to the Southport Flower Show must be about 20 years ago that I last went!0
-
Hmmm Southport Flower Show is only £3 cheaper at £16 for tickets booked in advanced. Still seems very expensive to me.0
-
We have put Southport in the diary but we aren't going to book till much nearer the time when we can see the weather forecast. Tatton is superb but it's not difficult to spend a few hundred by the time you add fuel, parking, tickets, food and anything you want to buy. Too late now anyway.0
