I have two PC's, main one running XP and second running
a Linux distro. I have a wireless router and want to share
files between the two, what's the best way of doing this?

What version of Linux you runing?
Install Samba service on the linux box and share folders. it should be visable from Windows network.
Some versions of Linux will already have this installed so you just need to set the folders as "Shared".Laters

The Linux box is running earOS http://www.earos.dk/
which is based on Ubuntu.
Just looked and found 'Network Servers' and can see
'MSHOME' but it doesn't show any files that I have set
to be shared?"Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Do you have samba installed? Check Synaptic (or other package manager) for Samba or SMB server.
Do you have Guest turned on in the Windows box? Or the correct username and password.
You'll have to set the windows shared folders to read-write access for the guest user.Laters

...and if you're running a firewall on the Linux box you may need to add three ports (NFS, SMB and the network discovery port who's protocol name I've forgotten) or make all incoming connections from the Win PC permitted.0

There is an account in XP called "Guest" it's disabled by default.
It gives other networked users access to shared folders without requiring a login name and password.Laters

Have you also checked in the Samba config file that the workgroup/domain name is the same as the one that the Windows PC is in?
You should be able to install GSAMBAD, which makes editing the config file easier, as you don't have to go looking for it...0 -
or have a look at a utility called swat that makes configuring samba a fair bit easier, nice web interface.0

why not just have a usb flash drive set for fat or fat32 and then they should both be able to read it just by swapping it to each one's usb port. Thats what I do with my seperate computers, one puppy linux and one XP.0
