Tiscali ending BT line rental problem

I recently moved home and setup the BT line in my new home, I had previously had Tiscali as my internet provider and transferred this across. I then upgraded my internet to Tiscali Max as this would save me quite a bit of money as I wouldnt have to pay any line rental to BT.
I have now received a bill of over £100 for ending my contract with BT early. I was unaware this would happen if I upgraded with Tiscali and don't think I was made aware of it, I was wondering if this had happedned to anyone else and if there was anything I could do?
Thanks

Sadly BT will not set up lines free. Also apparently other companies that could set up lines, will not. I'm sure that a quick check of BT's t&c's would reveal that you had accepted their terms when you set up the line. Sorry I can't offer a way of avoiding this charge. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

I think bryanb is right; I recently moved homes, and the BT agent who handled the move was quite clear that I was signing a new 12month contract when they set up the line at the new address.
I could be wrong, but I think they also said that in the letter they sent when the order was placed. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
All BT New Lines carry a 12 month contract.Did you not read the T&C.
If you cancel early your charged a £70 cancellation fee, plus a cancellation fee for any 12/18 month call bundle you possibly took out.See:
http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?p_sid=OU5y7T7j&p_faqid=9844&cat_lvl1=345&cat_lvl2=349&p_cv=2.349&p_cats=345,349
"Ceasing your BT line before the end of a 12-month contract means you would still be liable for the remainder of the 12-month line rental charge, or £70, whichever is the lower."
Tiscali could have supplied a new line themselves but would rather cherry pick BT Customers.0
