My 13 year old has a passion for angel delight - which I refuse to buy as I don't like the ingredient list. He has requested that I ask on here if anyone has a recipe for a make it at home substitute.....so over to you ladies and gentlemen.

    Thanks

Try this - can you make your own angel delight? ;) Hope your DS likes it :D I'll merge the threads later.

ooh ooh!! heres a good tried and tested.. take one can of raspberries, a raspberry jelly and a tin of evaporated milk..

whip the evap with an electric mixer, it wont go solid or anything but it will be bubbly.. make up the jelly with just a little water (microwave?) add the juice from the raspberries, mix the fruit and the jelly mix into the evap and leave to set..

this was a recipe called 'piggy mousse' that appeared in the natwest childrens saver account magazine about 20 years ago, its been a favourite ever since as it never fails!!

Aww! My girls used to love it too! I don't think you can make a substitute for Angel Delight! Go on, let him have it!
If he eats a balanced diet the rest of the time, it won't do any harm!
When he's all grown up like mine are now, you'll giggle at the idea of worrying about Angel Delight.

  • When angel delight first came out in the early 70s they used to do a coffee one.
It was the most heavenly tasting thing ever.I've never been able to make anything like it to resemble the taste.
My OH loved it so much he made me write to ask why they did'nt still make it,but they said there was no market for it.It was so lovely though layered with whipped cream.
I never eat the other varieties nowadays, they just don't seem to hit the spot.

mmmm.. lime jelly sounds lovely.. quite posh... you could make a butter biscuit base (like cheesecake) put this on top and decorate with chocolate and whipped cream once its set.. i just made that up.. might be gross!! :rotfl:

If it's hydrogenated fat you are worried about Sainsbury's Basics versions do not contain this, and they are only 7p. Still not a health food, but a tiny bit better than the real thing.
They taste fine too, only come in strawberry and chocolate though so sadly no butterscotch.

  • Yesterday my mum made a milk jelly which is a packet jelly made up with milk rather than water. My first thought was that it was very much like instant whip but I appreciate it was still made with processed jelly.

I guess you could make your own jeely with gellatine and fruit but it seems like a lot of work!
