Ahem hands up confession time. I bought chocolate angel delight for the first time in years from Lidl at the weekend but I'm justifying it by saying that I bought it with the intention in mind of making a mud drink for the small person for Halloween. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

I think you will find that Butterscotch Angel Delight splot over bananas is practically a health food.

Hear, hear mate,it is one of the most comforting of 'comfort foods' that I can think of, apart from Butterkist stirred into 'soft ice-cream.
At my age I can eat what I darned well please and not worry about owt.
How about hot chocolate with whipped cream on the top.Very unhealthy but yummy all the same

    Hello everyone

Here to pick your collective brains....does anyone have any idea how to make angel delight OS-style?

I tried milk and drinking chocolate, but it didnt set (didnt have much hope it would, but worth a try!), but the taste was about right.
so does anyone have any ideas on how to make it set?

    All ideas greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Hol

  • Not sure but you need to thicken it. If you use cornflour it will realy be chocolate custard. Would that be ok?

    Hi holstar,

There's an older thread with recipes that should help so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

  • It's not a recipe but did you know that Tescos value brand of Angel Delight is 10p? I can't imagine you could make it any cheaper than that and my kids hae never noticed it's not "proper" Angel Delight (like they get at Grandad's  ).

We find it ok but guess it depends if its about money saving or whether its more knowing what's in your food.

if you look at the ingredients its got that 'nastie' hydrogenated fats.

hydro fats, I think, helps to give AD that texture when rehydrated.

The only ingredient I can think of that creates that sort of airy texture is gluten  in bread & cakes. I cant think of any other ingredient in scratch cooking that would produce those airy bubbles.

Personally, Id just buy it! I dont eat it often but when I do I love it. Butterscotch all the way. And I made a cheesecake out of it once with ginger biscuits & evap & skimmed milk & a bit of instant coffee. It was delish.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
