I can sort of understand flash photography not being allowed in case the child should flinch and get paint in their eye or something, but I can't think of any good (or even remotely plausible) reason why parents or friends should be banned from taking pics without flash.

Because people who take pictures of children are obviously paedophiles.
I remember a few years ago, there was a photography competition in the town where I live, and the short-listed entrants had their photos displayed in a local shopping centre. One of the photos was of a street kid in Asia somewhere, who happened to be running around with no clothes on. Inevitably, some busybody complained that dirty old men might be getting their jollies looking at it, so it was removed.
When I heard about all this, I remember thinking "what kind of a sick person immediately thinks about sex whenever they see a picture of a naked child?".
I'd rather leave my kids with the person who took the photo than the person who complained about it any day of the week.0 -
Pheonix Nights Family Fun Day is essential viewing before hiring face painters. Series 2 episode 2. I fink the elf and safety people view it as part of their training rather than a fictional comedy programme.0

Back on topic (more or less), it's frankly none of a face-painter's business who's taking photos of a child. No child should be having their face painted without supervision from a parent or authorised carer, and if someone other than the parent wants to take a photo then it's up to the child and the parent to give or refuse permission. Face painters are not babysitters and that role should not be expected of them.0 -
