Then there is speedo inaccuracy, speedos nearly always overstate your speed, for example your speedo says 33mph but you're doing 29mph. However, this varies depending on things like tyre wear and tyre pressure. That's why traffic cops have to calibrate the kit in their cars every day.

When you hear someone complain that their ticket said they were doing 35 in a 30 zone, chances are their speedo was showing about 40mph.

Are lorries able to exceed the speed limit?
    Can they exceed 30MPH?
Conor, are you that one that tried to pull out on me on the M4 the other day? Whoever it was thought twice in the end, but instead pulled out on the car behind me into a small gap, making him hit his brakes hard.

Are you the one that tried to kill me on the M621 on Monday by diving from L3 to L2 where I was then stamping on the brakes so you could carve your way into the queue in L1 for the exit?

BTW, it was interesting driving down the M6 today and seeing how many car drivers seemed to think the stopping distance of a 40 tonne lorry in heavy rain was under 10ft. Every time I tried to leave a gap, some clown filled it.

I can 'hear' your respect and esteem for him coming through in every word you type :)

Remember the year 2014, that's when what goes around comes around. If you thought the Shell tanker drivers pay settlement was ludicrous, it's nothing compared to what all HGV drivers are going to be able to command by then.

    I had motorways in mind.

Not me, guv. I have respect for other road users - and my own safety.

Meanwhile back in the real world, 100mtrs too far???????

i was at a car show a couple of years ago. they had the police safety scamvan there. In a self interested sort of wayI was asking how far, how to dodge etc etc.

The cop on demo them proceeded to show me the fix he had on several cars over 1000mtrs away on the bypass in the distance.

I asked if it was possible to "jam" these things, well everyone knows they are available, he said they once targeted some sports jobby or other that had a jammer. In the time it came into view to the time it passed the camera it was hit by 9 separate certifiable readings.

    100mtrs is chicken feed methinks.

Conner in the year 0blob we will be searching for the remains of that extinct species, the "trucker":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

The limit varies from Force to Force. This is so that you never really know what the policy is as you travel around the country.

The ACPO guidelines say that they should prosecute at 10% + 2 mph (35 in a 30 zone like the b!!!!!ds got me - I will never forgive them).

They will prosecute at lower speeds if they have not met their monthly targets. They will prosecute at higher speeds if their targets have been met.

As the tax take drops with the forthcoming recession, expect even tighter limits.

Conor has been lucky. Stay lucky.

How dare you! Doesn't skill, judgement, experience, not to mention having driven nearly 4.739 million miles covering the thick and thin end of the UK without so much as a glare from a traffic warden count for anything?

Don't be facetious. Haven't you seen them in London's Oxford Street, marching up and down with boards attached back and front, announcing, 'TWO THOUSAND AND FOURTEEN! The year when all HGV drivers can command their own salaries and hence between them buy the thick and thin end of Tuscany. Leviticus 19:6. Those who don't Believe are doooooooomed!'
