Speeding ticket?

Hi. Today I went around a bend at about 36/37 in what I later found out to be a 30 zone. As I went around I saw a police camera van in the distance. I hit the brakes and slowed down to 30 to be certain and later found out that the limit was 30.

The camera van was a bout 100m from the bend. Would this be too far? I presume the van is meant to be visible so surely the camera must be aimed at closer than I was when I was going fast. Is this right? Would 36/37 be too fast - if I slowed down would it be the average of the speeds?

Thanks

If you later found out it was a 30 zone then why did you slow down to 30 when you saw the camera. This says to me that you knew that it was a 30 zone and so knew you were speeding.

Usually you get a 10% discretion, so, 33mph you may get away with.

I slowed down because I wasnt sure. There were no signs since the 40 sign to say otherwise, but I was unsure of whether the limit there was 30 or 40. If you have 10% leniancy and the car speedo overestimates presumably this is closer?

Isn't it 10% + 2 mph? Even so, it seems as though the OP was going faster than that, so may not even get the chance to swap his points for 'speeding school'.

It's a difficult one.. I know that some motorway camera have a 10mph difference, so 70mph limit - the camera can be set at 80mph. As for mobile speed camera's I should think it would be the 10%..

They have to send you a NIP Notice of Intended Prosecution within 2 weeks for it to be valid, so you will soon find out..

    Good Luck!

Good rule of thumb is that if there are no signs, but there are street lamps, assume it's 30.

It's always better to go slower if you don't know!!

    Are you sure?

    Everyone
I know who's been to speeding school has been done for doing 36 in a 30 (including my husband and my 81-year-old father :rotfl:). Anyone who's been caught doing 37 or more hasn't had that option.

I thought I got caught doing about 37 in a 30 zone, but the van had a camera in theat was either a dummy or a camera that did't work!!! I haven't received a letter and it was well over 2 months ago. there were a numberof us at work that got causght on the same morning, as there were road works, and this particular road got you round the works, so they knew they would catch people on that road at that time. Defeats the object really if the camera doesn't work!!

If you haven't been caught before just pay the fine and attend the course, if you challenge the fine it will go up if you lose! so just take it a lesson learnt! You can do a course every 3 years I think! so plan accordingly!

But just imagine, by driving at 30 you actually conserve fuel and it will last longer, thus saving you money on fuel and the fine, all fine and well me saying that having been caught before!! but we all have a small lapse of concentration every now and again, but the rozzers are always there to catch it!!

I hope you you are as lucky as me with my last scare.

    Good Luck

I think you'll have to wait and see :(. You normally hear within two weeks.
