ISOM, you can come and make soap at mine, no problem!;)

Further news on Nigella seeds from a blog I found:

'Some people, when unable to find kalonji seeds, have substituted Nigella damascena seeds. Although I don't intend to use the seeds I have for cooking, of course I had to give them a taste . They taste fruity, sort of a grape meets oregano flavor, quite pleasant.'

interesting! I think I'll harvest them. No recipes yet on t'internet, but will keep looking!

A friend of mine asked a chef (and I use that term losely) in Ikea how they made the cream sauce. He said the easiest way to make it is, instant gravy with a bit of cream added. I have done this myself cos we love Ikea meatballs. Its not quite the same but its cheaper than buying the dry mix packets of sauce.
Danish/Swedish Gravy is basically a white sauce (use roux method) with gravy browning added, needs to be fairly thick though.

DH used to go to sea on the trawlers with the Danish Fishermen and they taught him hoe to make this to go with the Frikadellars (meatballs).

We have this sometimes with mashed potato and green beans.

Hi there weezl... sorry for just butting in like this (have been a lurker through the previous challenge and thus far on this one - they've both been really interesting!) but was wondering - how long does your lentil pate sandwich filler keep for?

    TIA x

Hey all, I have been trying to grow some veg this year and put some mustard greens out and they have been going nuts :). I had no idea what to do with them and they seemed a little piquant for salad but I have just searched for them on tinterweb and apparently they are pretty good for you steamed and contain calcium and masses of vitamin k. Given how easy they were to grow and how they have flourished might be something to consider. They seem to expand to fill the container so a bucket or trough would be ideal. :D

    Evening all,

Just put a rather juicy pic of one of the steamed jam puds up on m'blog if anyone's interested!

edited to say, oooh can I link to it like this?:

    jam-sponge1.jpg

    oooh goody, I can!

Sian the green, ;)scuse my ignorance but when your greens go to seed, will you have a lovely supply of... mustard seeds:rotfl:? Just a thought, that if made into a coarse grain mustard with some olive oil and posh vinegar in pretty jam jars It'd be a super gift for people... Christmas hamper maybe?

Hiya zarazara - Baked bean recipe coming up! I'll soak the beans tonight and get the digital scales out on the morrow! I'll be interested to compare the nutritional profile to the shop-bought ones...

Vampiric addiction, hello! No need to lurk, we are very friendly and won't bite! It kept for at least a week in my fridge, and frozen in sandwiches has lasted 3 months so far!:o:D

I think that would indeed be the case. Annoyingly I have been pulling off the flowers for a while... D'oh. The seeds I got originally were in a pack from poundland amongst some others I wanted so I kinda put them in as an experiment and they have grown more than everything else put together. Have you seen the seedswap website where you can exchange/give/get seeds? Would be happy to send you some of mine if you want

    http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/516580

If you google it comes up with lots - some with pistacios etec in so worth a hunt if sommat you fancy! The weezls have it as I wasnt that keen anyhoo (made it for mum!) and dont want the temptation...

Aww ta Weezl re soap offer - no rush & want to research a bit more...Currently researching what I can eat for supper thats quick! Just has some scan bra (umm..."interesting" and think I'll stick to ryvita!!) and cheese but still scan bran (never ending...I suspect like trips to the loo that will follow after eating it...beginning to see why there was slight panic in the weezl household re running out of loo paper on such a high fibre diet!!?!!) left to eat & suspect a bit of strawb jam may be in order!
