    Eh?

Deary me - that was an insult. Your use of the English language was simply shocking.

Why did I not take (positive) advantage? Well by the time I made the predictions, it was simply too late. As far as I was concerned, the game was already over in November 06. If you look at professional investors, many of those who 'got out' had done so even before this. It was amateur investors who were still trying it come summer 07 (and having immense difficulty). In practice, I did take advantage. By not purchasing, I am now much better off than I would otherwise have been. So I may have gained nothing in real terms, but relative to those who have gone negative, I have gained advantage.

Were that so, I'd be earning plenty enough not to much care about house prices!

I just love being right on here! So a big rasberry to all those on here who, 18 months ago, told me that prices absolutely and definitely would never fall.

Talksalot81, if you are going to comment on someone's use of the english language, then might it not be better to ensure that your own posts are spelt correctly.

It is raspberry not rasberry

Was that not a touch racist (as well as downright pompous), to describe me as 'someone with english as a second language' as an insult?

Are you saying that people who are from a different ethnic background are likely to only have a poor grasp of english?

Does anyone know how to report racism on this forum?

Actually, I did think the same thing.

So by not taking advantage of the upturn because you were too busy predicting a downturn, you're now turning that round to say that you practiced what you preached because you now arent in an NE situation? Nice.

Even a mere amateur like myself managed to get a £50K lift during those last six months that you were banging your drum and get out (purely by luck), imagine what a professional like you could have made?

What bemuses me is that even if this situation had taken five years to happen, you'd have been on here going 'five years ago i said.... blah blah blah.... and now its all come true'.

    How absolutely absurd.

I didn't make money because I did not have time. Simple. I first looked into a purchase in early autumn 06 and came to the conclusion that the market was in trouble soon after. What on earth would be the sense in deciding the market was unstable and an imminent correction was due?! That would be an extreme risk and outright stupid in light of my appraisal of the situation.

It would have been a risky strategy to buy near the top to sell on immediately. It takes at least 4 months from the beginning of the legal process to purchase to completing the subsequent 'flip'. I know some people made money this way but others are sitting with houses that are losing value, costing them hundreds a month and they can't shift them. Not a nice position to be in.
The problem with housing as an investment is that it is illiquid (although during the heady days of the boom it certainly didn't seem to be!)

Btw can we lay off the personal insults? Surely we can all make our points without having to resort to those tactics.
