Unfortunately.I don't thnk this is the case. I thought the same as you until a friend of mine was ripped off (for want of a better word) by Tiny Computers/Computer World when they went into administration.
There were thousands of people that ordered from them, paid and are yet to receive their goods or refund.
Did you pay by credit card? (not debit card) if you did you may have some luck in claiming the money back. was it over £100? even if not, your CC issuer may refund you out of good will.
You will need proof of purchase though.
