Problems trying to leave Virgin Media

I want to cancel my Virgin Media (TV+BB+Phone) after 6 months because they have been consistently awful, rude, unhelpful and my BB connection either doesn't work or is very slow.

I never signed my contract because it said "just sign this to show us that you're happy with our service and want to keep it for 12 months" and I wasn't. Now they're trying to tell me that they don't need a signed contract and want to charge me an "early disconnection fee" which is just the rest of the contract. They are refusing to disconnect me until I agree to pay it and refusing to put anything in writing.

You've used the service for 6 months so you have agreed to their terms & condition of service. If you didn't use it at all then you would have a better stance of cancelling. Ultimately you will have to see out the contract or pay off the remaining months.

Have you raised any faults with the broadband to report the slowness?

Yes several times, culminating in them telling me that a limiter had been placed upon the broadband speed due to the number of customers in the area.

Their advice? Use the BB after midnight.
