I had the misfortune of not properly drying the sugar jar out & ended up with a stubborn congealed mess in the bottom. Ever since this incident the sugar has always had that slightly moist feel about it.... grrrr >:(
Fed up and out of desperation for nice dry sugar I once again cleaned & dried the storage container, but this time I popped in a SANDWICH BAG. The sugar is now in perfect condition, we do this for all of our storage. This also helps to keep the storage containers in perfect condition. (Some of which are quite expensive & resalable via car boots etc).

do you mean you lined the container,
or did you just put a bag in the bottom and the sugar on the top. Ok probably not this. But it made me smile with an image of you stuffing a plastic bag in the bottom and pouring the sugar in regardless.Smile it confuses people!0 -

Is this ecologically sound?Nice to save.0

Is this ecologically sound?
Of course, because it's one bag for each storage jar that would have other wise been used to pack sandwiches or whatever!!0 -
What's wrong with just washing it, then making sure it's properly dry? (I find this is essential to keep the outside of the jars looking clean, anyway)0
-
And if the jar isn't completely dry when you put the bag in (as you imply), the moisture between the bag and the jar would eventually start to make the jar pong, wouldn't it?0
-
I'm pleased to say we are not suffering any pongs..... The storage containers remain in mint condition & should yeild a good return at a booty. ;D We will continue to use sandwich bags from this day forward.
Bump to share the knowledge0
