  • Evening all,

I've to go for a 2nd interview for my sales job on Tuesday, but it's in Leeds!!! I don't know whether to get the train or drive down, they are giving me £80 expenses so that's good.

I'm looking forward to it and I really want the job, so fingers crossed, not long till Tuesday!!!

The good thing is that I would get a car and they would be paying for the petrol so that's a fantastic saving. I would also be away from home about 3 or 4 nights a month, that means that they would be paying for my meals. Would certainly make the challenge next year a bit easier:T :T :T :T

Speak tomorrow, I'm off to bed.

I'm thinking of getting DS an electric blanket for his birthday (to try to encourage him to stay in bed longer at the weekends). Are they a good investment?
Once he hits 12/13 ypu'll have trouble getting out of bed, never mind encouraging to stay there. lol!!
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

oh i so agree with this:D
    November NSD's - 7
  • Good luck for your son's first day of school mumzy!

I'm fairly sure I'll do this challenge whatever the rules are. I've recognised that the issue that got me into debt was spending too much (?!)- largely because I never kept track of anything and didn't really attach any value to money. Now that I'm doing this, I've realised how much less my cost of living needs to be, and how much I used to waste :o

Aiming for a NSD today, but I find it difficult to avoid temptation at work. My car insurance is due to come out soon though, and that is quite good motivation  Roll on another year's NCB!

Mumzy and boy - good luck. (I even feel myself welling up at the thought).

Just as a matter of interest, what's the amount of a student loan these days?

Was wondering how much nearly-12-year-old DS would need to have saved (after a gap year) to be able to invest his loan. Lol, as if I would get that organised anyway.

Morning everyone. No time to catch up with posts as I have so many jobs to do before I go on holiday on tomorrow.
Would you believe that my destination has been having temperatures in the high 20s and 30s with no rain since July and the forecast is for heavy thunderstorms and frost

I counted my change saved since May and it is £53 which will pay for the petrol to get to the airport and back :j

No frills airline so I will be taking sandwiches. Might have a coffee at the airport but I will be taking my own biscuits :D I also have cans of Pepsi to drink on the way down and will be taking rolls and crisps.
My freezer is stuffed with reduced bread as I managed to go into the Co-op as a new full trolley of reduced loaves was being pushed out :j
I have loads of flour that has been frozen to kill weevils :rotfl:

Heard that funding has been approved for my Mum to go into residential care which is a relief but very sad. Typical that it all happens as I will be away for the first 10 days when there are so many things to be sorted out.

Question...how come British Gas have put my electric DD up from £27pm to £31pm when I have been in credit for the last 3 quarters and am on a capped rate until 2010  I will have to chase this up when I get back.

Off to update my spends on spendingdiary.com.

    See you next weekend :T

    Janey,

That's great news about your mum. And have a lovely holiday despite the weather. Looking forward to hearing about it when you get back.

Something similar has happened here, Janey - I'm on a capped rate and have been super-stingy with fuel, but I have less in hand than I was expecting. There was something about this in one of Martin's emails: the cap is cheaper compared with what you would have paid, but it's still more than what you were paying a few months ago.

Meanwhile I'm still trying to persuade my old Mum (80) that she should cap  - we keep having the same conversation but I get nowhere with her, she's always going to do it 'in a minute' and 'can't find the bills right now' so I have no idea what she's paying. She lives in another part of the country which means I can't just go and sort it out for her. She'll go ballistic when the bills come in and guess who'll have to listen to it all...

  • Janey - Have a fab holiday, you sound very organized as usual ;)
Whitewing - I think my student loan was around 12k (4k per year for 3 years?) I spent it all and way more  hence the reason for my debt problems in the first place. However my best friend at uni put hers in an isa and worked 7 days a week (at mcdonalds incidently) durring the holidays and funded herself through uni before paying it all back and keeping the interest. I pay mine back at a rate of £2 a week which I really am not bothered about to be honest!

Feeling abit more alive today although starving hungry! Last night I had a nice quiet evening just doing some housework including cleaning the oven which was horrible! I have a very heightened sense of smell at the moment so I had to do it holding my breath :rotfl: Dh is working tonight again for some more money to pay for the van's new wheelbearing so I might do some sewing and the obligatory dog walking of course. Have a good day all xx
