Good on you Penny2myname. You wouldn't have enjoyed spending it anyway as you would have been racket with guilt! I love it when people do stuff like that, really restores your faith after everything you read in the papers. Put your feet up and give yourself a pat on the back from me!

Oh, as you can see, I'm back from my week visiting my parents. It was lovely and I feel very rested, but not a proper holiday. Oh well, that's what debt does for you, I'm going to have a blow out one as soon as I'm debt free (soon, I hope, soon!).

Sophiesmum I'm glad to hear your brother is home. What a difficult time for you but you are doing really well with everything. Best wishes to you and the family.

Off home to drag some dinner together out of the cupboard / freezer. Broke this month (when aren't I?!) so determined not to buy anything except milk for as long as possible.

    Have a nice evening everyone.

    xx

  • I think you did the right thing Penny2myname. The Water Babies convinced me of the merits of do as you would be done by :D

I'm really annoyed at banks at the moment. I know they are in business for profit etc but I've been having a bad week with them generally. I couldn't open a seperate current account to look after bills etc and pay off my overdraft from. And now they've declined the joint account my bf and I tried to set up  I'm sure they have good reasons, but it is so frustrating when you're trying to sort everything out.

In more positive news I've managed a no spend day and did some overtime at work.
  • is that the film waterbabies that was part animated... always made me cry that film.

Aaaaaarrrrggggghhhh!!!!! I have spent all day amongst people half my age (the youngest are 23 years my junior) talking about equal rights and appropriate behaviour in college and playing team building games. Luckily it just strarted to rain when we were supposed to go out and do some running . But on a positive note tomorrow we get to spend at least 1.5 hours in the animal house. They have the cutest Degus and Chinchillas. (When I get rid of my books I might be agle to get some :D) So I am not going to quit yet.

I got today my first dog walking client. It will only be two times a week and not a lot of money but at least I get paid for something that I would do anyway. The dog is lovely but very young and boisterous, I have completely fallen in love with him already.

Penny: I agree with the others!! Well done, what if that was the money the lady was going to pay for the taxi?
Nyk: Oh for goodnes sake. If I ever am so lucky as to get married I know for a fact that there will be no kind of monetary or any other type of contribution from my parents. She is so so lucky to have you.
Sophiesmum: I hope all is as well as can be, thinking of you.

I am sure there was something else but can't remember now. I am so tired! I have so much to do and only thing I can think about is that I really would like to go to bed NOW to get some sleep.

    Have a great evening everybody,

    Marru

Yeah that thought did go through my head. ~The sheer mortification and embasesment of getting to final destination and finding you haven't got he money to pay.

On an entiley selfish note, if there hadn't have been anyone about so no idea who the money would have belinged to, then would gladly have found and spent that money. But when its obvious who the money belongs to, then its only right to return it.

  • I liked the film but I loved the book when I was a child. I had a really old copy with lovely prints in. I was a book nerd even then :o

nyk, I'm with Marru. I only hope my mum would want to be involved in my wedding. I wouldn't dream of asking for funds. They've helped me out so much already.

It must be worth it Marru if you get to play with Chinchillas :D

  • Just thought i would share a funny moment with you so you know it is not all doom and gloom with bro;)

I always cut his hair, with some of those electric clippers and it needed doing badly as it had grown whilst he has been in hospital, so I popped round earlier to do the business. Bro has always wanted a number 1 close cut but mum had always made him have number 2 as she thinks the very short cut makes him look like a thug. Today she gave in and said he could have the no 1;). However he was not feeling well enough to be hoisted into his wheelchair so we had to devise a cunning plan to cut his hair whilst he was lying in bed:eek: This is not easy and the hair gets everywhere. Anyway ever resourceful mother gets one of these disposable incontinence bed pads and cuts a hole in middle of it, then pops it over bros head to stop all the hairs going down his neck and in bed. I manage to cut his hair with a little help sitting him up, and he did look like a thug:p then mum goes to remove the incontinence pad from round his neck and as she tries to pull it back over his head all the cotton wool stuffing inside comes out and attaches to his spiky hair:eek: So there is bro in bed looking like a delinquent and covered in white fluff with an incontinence pad round his neck.:rotfl: :rotfl: We all had a good chuckle, then had to get the Dyson out and use the hose to hoover all the hair and fluff out of his bed:rolleyes: ......Bro thinks he has got one up on mum by having the number 1 cut:D

sophiesmum loved the haircut story. Just goes to show what a bit of humour can bring to a situation :rotfl:

It's raining again  I think I may have to borrow the sheep again as my grass is resembling a jungle set now :D

I went to visit a friend who had to leave her job and is now on JSA...when the DSS get things sorted.
Her OH is not on a big wage.
Her OH has always done the shopping and when she told me that her weekly shopping bill at Mr T's is £100-£140 (without fresh meat) for her, OH and one son who is not often at home and 2 cats I needed resuscitating
and her last electric bill was £300  for 3 months.

She showed me the shopping bill for last week and the amount for chocolate biscuits and crisps/snacks was £25   FOR ONE WEEK

I said my budget is £80 per month and I still save and she was gob-smacked.
When her OH got home from work, she gave him a hard time about what he buys and I felt a bit bad :o
But she was trying to be sensible. Her OH said there is no way he is giving up his biscuits and crisps. I asked if he liked Mr T's own make but he just shook his head.
Then I asked my friend if she could make biscuits but her OH said HM biscuits are c***

I know she is really worried about money but I think she is going to have a real battle on her hands.
She did persuade him to go to Mr M's one week but he didn't like it

I see a lot of rows coming on and I will have to say well out of it as it is up to them to sort their financial affairs out.

Forgot to say....he also smokes about 40 a day.

I am going to give them some spare low energy light bulbs I have. When I told them about filling a flask with boiling water for my morning coffees her OH fell about laughing.
But at least my electric bill is less than a third of theirs for a quarter :T

Penny, I believe what goes around comes around so one day you'll have an honest person who'll do a similar deed for you.

Penny - I totally agree with this. You definitely did the right thing

Nyk - Sorry to hear about your daughter. Is the wedding quite soon and is that why she is getting stressed? I'm sure she is grateful to you really. When me and Dh got married we had saved up to pay for everything ourselves and then my mum and dad offered to pay for the reception which was a very pleasant surprise but we certainly never expected anyone to help us as it was our decision to get married.

Marru - would you like to walk my two dogs as well ;) They are bonkers though!

Janey - That sounds like how my Dh used to be. I have managed to persuade him to give up his bought biscuits (unless we see a bargain in home bargains) and to eat my homemade stuff instead. Still working on the crisps though!

Sophiesmum - love the haircut story glad your bro is still smiling. I usually cut my Dh's hair and do a number 2 for the same reason however one day he decided to do a number 1 himself all over and wouldn't believe me that it woul be too short! He loooked like a convict for a few weeks until it grew back :rotfl:

Hello everyone else :D Hope you are all well. Its a cold and wet day here today I think autumn has definitely started. Hoping for a NSD today as I will just be at work and then dog walking so no temptations there! Almost had a NSD yesterday just had to get some more decorators caulk for the baby's room although that came out ofthe diy fund so not too bad. Made some chocolate crunch last night suposedly for Dh but I seem to have eaten more of it than him already oops :p xx
