Things have been fairly quiet about here and, with only 20 weeks left to go, I'm hoping that there are still more than just a handful of us left taking part. Could I make this post a list of who is still doing the challenge along with an update of how everyone is doing? :confused:I think that may help us to keep track and give us a little boost by seeing who is and who isn't still attempting this. :) I'll be back to edit in the list with names of those still here :)

The garden yield is really impressive! I'm moving again in November and we'll have a roof terrace type garden. I think I'll try and grow some stuff in pots. Can you tell I don't really know what I'm talking about

Managed a no spend day today, even though my will power was severely tested by taking my mum out shopping. I'm keeping the motivation up by sorting out my paperwork tonight. Hopefully that will scare me enough to last through the week :D Not really sure if I belong on that list, as I started and then stopped. However, the lack of internet was due to budgetary constraints

    Good evening all,

It really hasn't been much of a holiday for DD. After we both recovered from our colds we are down again. I think I got it worse this time. Luckily Bails cheered us up today and gave us cups of lovely hot chocolate. And DD had such a great time helping Bails' dad in building work.

I think I have gained the pounds back that I managed to lose and also we are eating ready made of semi made food from shops, not really frugal or healthy.

I hope we will be ok by the weekend as we are going to head off to Cumbria as I will go for this alternative therapy course there. This lovely lady is going to house us and I can take DD with me. Bails has promised to dog-, guinea pig-, rat- and house sit. :T If I master this therapy she will be my very first and last human practice target (apart from perhaps DD if she ever needs it).

I am trying to watch the programme about banks but there is still no peace here as trying to get DD settled to bed. I hope it will be available in 4 on demand to be watched later. Then it is time for cup of cold remedy and a chocolate bar for me.

Whitewing: such a lovely things you said in your post. It is wonderful to see how you truly appreciate for eachother and your relationship and the commitment that you have made.

DD's five minutes are over now so need to go and get her to bed.

    Night night all,

    Marru

:hello: I am still bobbing about!

i've not been on as much as I have sore-arm-itus & 'jordanitus' - I have been going on other internet forums cos I have a rare type of tumour on my finger - virtually always benign, but 50:50 that it will be a bad type that keeps on growing back over and over, which would suck :( also it is atypical but my doctor won't tell me in what way it is atypical, as i would 'just worry myself looking stuff up on the internet'!

i like to call it 'jordanitus' cos my GP kept sending me away saying it was nothing/that he couldn't even feel a lump, but I kept on going back in cos i was worried cos jordan once had a rare type of cancer on her finger!

i am having an operation to remove it next wed, so might not be on for a while as i will be a one-armed bandit. I was talking online to someone who had had the same thing, she said the worst thing about the operation was that for a few weeks after you cant pull your knickers up after you have been to the toilet!

((((hugs)))) Jumble bee! I have a rare (benign) tumour too - only its in my foot. Its got the silliest name... ledderhose :rotfl: (plantar fibromatosis) and it supposedly is most common in middle aged men  :rotfl: Hmmmmmm... I've had a couple of ops on it but it came back. Its more an annoyance than causing me any problems now. I can't wear shoes with arch supports as that is where my lump is! My mum has the hand version of it (Dupuytrens). Good luck with your op and ummmm good luck with the loo breaks too :rotfl:

    Hi,

can I be really late and join in here? I remember seeing this thread at the beginning of the year but never got past the thinking about it stage.

Was thinking if I do from Sep to Dec so 4 months worth. I've just done a little bit of spreadsheet mucking around and think I can do what you're all doing + Child Benefit. I've worked out I'll have £458 a month to live on or £1832 till the end of the year. Shall I say £1850??

It'll be quite hard, but hoping I can do it :)

Jumblebee - hope everything goes okay with your op. Have just tried the one armed knicker challenge and failed miserably:rotfl:.

Nyk - Have read somewhere that putting a banana skin with the toms helps ripen them:confused:

These are my first few chillies from greenhouse:D , they are now in the dehydrator along with some bananas that I got reduced yesterday.

The bananas make lovely moist banana chips for snacks:D - I got 2kg reduced to 40p in Mr A's.

  • Had a busy few days sorting stuff out for a car boot (we have/had far too much stuff) DH got up at 5am yesterday to take it to the car boot and made £140 profit :j :j Still got more stuff to sell on ebay and maybe another car boot, at least the house will be cleared for when we emigrate to NZ at the end of next year (if everything goes to plan)

kbarty, welcome to the challenge :) Think of the next 4 months as a brief practice run for next year, as we'll be starting it all over again on 01/01/09.

Sophiesmum, I was thinking of you whilst watching more reruns of 'Friends'! It was the one where Chandler got the new room mate, Eddie, and he had a dehydrator! My chilli pepper plants are just starting to flower but I'll get an up to date picture of 'Big Jim' soon, as he seems a bit happier on the kitchen windowsill. I just hope we get some decent sunshine soon to help things along.

BlueFleur good luck with the move, hope it's somewhere nice. Roof terrace idea sounds just the job for pots and should be far easier to protect from such creatures as the veggie munching snails and pesky neighbouring cats! :D

Mama67 I'm glad you're still with us. Spotted you on Setmefree's 'energy use diary' thread and i-measure group too! Well done! :T As for the 4k challenger list, I have given up trying to keep track of it, so I'll just stick to the original in post 1 and we'll hopefully have some results to add in at the end of the year. :D

Evening all, I havent posted in a long time, but have kept up to date with reading the thread. The fixy upper sounds great GO FOR IT - how do the next door neighbours get across the river - could you share their access at all, or get a caravan over using it - or have a houseboat yourself to save renting costs??
I havent got exact spends to date but have kept broadly to budget. I may work it out to do the last 4 months, but overall I am very pleased - thanks for the hints and tips everyone.
