I suspect you have used fancy metal-look aluminium valve caps. Something happens called bi-metallic corrosion as the aluminium reacts with the copper on the valve and they seize on. This is a common occurrence. If you really want to use aluminium caps the best way to stop them seizing on is a little copper grease on the threads.
If you can't get them off, it will be a case of having to have the tyre removed and a new valve fitted which will cost around £12 per wheel.
im sure there must have been seconds between our posts!...work permit granted!0 -
I do have fancy aluminum ones
That sounds about right
Thanks anewman! You always answer my car questions clearly!
Do you think i should opt for the new valve? Or maybe just get new tyres?
I think there all the same ones as it came out the factory. Its an X reg and has done about 56,000 miles. New tyres or new valves?I'm getting married in August 2015:j0 -
Omg now theres an argument between my friend and my other half, if the car is a corsa B or a corsa C...
X reg, 2000 model, B or C?I'm getting married in August 2015:j0 -
Yeah if the tyres are down to 2mm tread or less, or looking a little cracked and deteriorated on the sidewalls, probably worth getting new tyres as won't cost too much more. See blackcircles.com or I have noticed nationaltyres have bogof on barum brilliantis with a small discount for booking online (probably not the best brand of tyres, but not the worst).
Editing to add my girlfriend recently had a 10 year old tyre blow out on her while on the motorway simply because it was an old tyre.0 -
how much do new tyres cost? per tyre? Think i could be moneysaving and get a cheaper price for getting all 4 done?
Just need to know what im doing so i dont sound stupid to the man in the garageI'm getting married in August 2015:j0 -
put your car details here so you will know what tyres are exactly for your car and have a rough idea on what is on offer. Then check www.blackcircles.com for some prices, and ring around your local tyres fitters and see if they match or beat these prices on the same brands.
Good luckBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

The kwikfit site gives me the incorrect tyres for my car. Best to double check the size on the car before ordering.0

Thanks Thunderbird! Them sites are really useful! Im looking at about £27 per tyre. But in true moneysaving style ill get it under £100 for the 4
(And i saw on the oneshow tonight how easy it was to change a tyre! so i could do it myself if needs be! We have all the tools in the garage!)
Thanks Jammin, i thought it was a C but my OH disagreed! It matters for the catch i need, now i know to go into the scrap yard and ask for a catch for a C! lol
My corsa is on the cut off line (2000) so its abit tricky!I'm getting married in August 2015:j0 -
Thanks anewman!
Ill take a look before i ask. They are really nice guys at the garage and my mum knows the owner (who works on the cars himself the majority of the time) so i think ill send my car down with her. They are really nice and wouldnt rip us off. Trusted car ppl.. who'd have thought?! lolI'm getting married in August 2015:j0
