orange freephone numbers

I have read the articles on using an over ride number like onetel to get cheaper calls but I had been told that orange now charge for freephone numbers - is that right?

AFAIK Orange do not charge for 0800 numbers on most of their own contract tariffs, though they do charge on most (or possibly all) OVP tariffs. They also charge for 0800 on PAYG.

Unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks - I hope not! As it's the only reason I've stuck with Orange all these years :)

Calls to 0500/0800/0808 numbers are still free on normal Orange Contract phones. Not on OVP or PAYG, as Charlie 12 points out. They also charge for calls to 0800 numbers being used by some cheap call providers and calling card services.
When they start charging some cheap call providers just change the 0800 access number.
