BT's residential pricing options...

At the moment we pay £25ish a month plus mobile calls etc to BT. After recently getting the Freetalk adapter for £19.99 i'm looking to drop back my commitment to BT. There used to be a heavy discount for low users however after looking at their site i can only see three calling plans the cheaperst being £10.50 per month. Am i missing something cheaper or is that it?

BT do two other tariffs, In-Contact Plus, a incoming calls only tariff or Light User Scheme for those that haven't and don't make that many outgoing calls at all. The criteria you have to fulfill to be able to go for the In-Contact Plus and Light User Scheme is strict, so I'd recommend reading the relevant pages on BT website (links above).
You can not use indirect access codes, CPS providers or broadband with either In Contact Plus or Light User Scheme. Now using Call18866/1899's freephone access number may be allowed (unless its already blocked - and is likely to have been) but as soon as BT notice the increase in traffic to these specific freephone numbers then they would block them. OfCOM agreed with BT that using alternative call providers on these two tariffs isn't allowed. In fact BT have wanted to scrap these tariffs because its a loss making to them but OfCOM have said they can't which is why it is difficult on BT's website to find information about them.
OfCOM are currently still investigating (as far as I'm aware) whether people just using broadband would need to pay the £10.50 but I suspect BT will still be allowed to charge the minimum normal tariff price plan of £10.50 for those who only use broadband simply because both BT and OfCOM will know that they will use VoIP instead to make any voice calls.
Bottom line is you could try and go for Light User Scheme but don't be surprised if BT notice you have broadband and/or notice your phone usage is high and say no. They would be currently within their rights to do this until OfCom says otherwise.0 -
1899 and 18866's 0808 numbers work on my light user line, and i have had broadband for over a year. I've also called BT about three times and said i need to be on TO1 and they say it will be done, but still on LUS!0
