The Bankrupt Inn (Part Two)

On a serious note, perhaps we should all drink a toast to 'Mike St. Helens' without whom this board would not exist. It is now three years since he started the 'Bankruptcy Club' thread on the DFW board where, at that time, there was a lot of animosity towards those who chose 'bankruptcy' as a means of dealing with their otherwise insolvable debt problems, or, like me, were declared bankrupt by their creditors.
Over the months this thread got so large, attracting and accumulating a wealth of knowledge and support, that the sub-board 'Bankruptcy and Living With it' was created in 2007, leading to today's accolade.
'Mighty Oaks, indeed, from Little Acorns grow'.
So raise your glasses - assuming phil is around to fill them

Yes, NM - mostly all gone now. Even then the 'animosity' came mainly from 'hordes of marauding trolls' who saw bankrupts as easy targets, coupled with a general, often genuine, misunderstanding of bankruptcy by others who were struggling to deal with their debts through DMPs and IVAs, leading to a conception that all 'bankrupts' were taking the 'easy way out'.
This, reluctantly, led to a reticence by many of those for whom bankruptcy was really their only solution, to post on the forum, and many sought solace in Mike's thread.
Opening it up as a 'sub board' served to show that bankrupts are not social lepers and has led to a general and non-prejudicial cross posting between the main DFW posters and the 'Bankruptcy Board' posters.
I, with others, am first and foremost a 'DFW Nerd' who needed the support of the Bankruptcy Club 'thread' to help me through my own problems, so, as I see it, there is no 'us and them'.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

DFW Nerd # 166 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
Hi Rog,
I remember those early days well, we'd already been declared bankrupt when I went looking for information on DFW, and found very little but negative comment.
I've still got the first P.M I swapped with Mike and by the time he started the BCSC Thread I'd qot quite a lot of anecdotal answers from our own experience and research in other areas.
There certainly have been a lot of people who've benefitted from that initial Thread over the years.

Well im disapointed, the BR board finaly gets its place as its own board and fermi decides to take the day of, one of the other main posters that has made this board what it is, and he is not even here for its 'maiden voyage' so to speak:rolleyes:
