Lisa - or you could go back to college/uni?

Adult learners can get grants/childcare if you are on a course more than 12hrs per week (as they class that as full-time).

Re-train whilst the recession is on and the kids are young enough not to notice, then you will be in a prime position to hit the job market when things look up.

I am going back to college in September - to do my accounting AATs (I have checked their rules and BR, they do not appear to care if you do AATs after BR but do the other way round - but I will perhaps have to argue this for the college interview!) I wont get any grant type help as I have an OH at home who claims ESA for his disability, but I do get the course for free.
  • i was thinking of going collage but i left school with nothing and just done customer service jobs since leaving school for 10yrs untill having bubbas and i know this is the perfect time to do it as i am basicly starting from scratch and the world is my oyster sort of thing but just havent got a clue what sort of courses i want to do really.

going to have a look on courses in my area to see what my options are

    thanks skylight

thanks haley got abit confused as i was reading as my brain shuts down at 7 when kids go to bed so thought it was just mummy brain.

i found 1 job that seemed interesting but very confused over the hours i phoned my sister and she couldnt understand either but you cant ring to find out any details you just have to apply and then find out

    this is what it says

the hours are 35hrs per week on a 2 nights on 4 off so does that mean the 2 nights are 17 1/2 shifts?!?!? thats a very long time as the out of office hours are 6pm to 9am. its the night shift in a animal hospital.

ive always wanted to work with animals and be a vet assistant but doing such a long shift and having kids the next day will be pretty harsh so may hold out till they do a day shift but would have loved it if i could. i may still think about it.

im going to the job center tomorrow and see if i can speak to someone i would like to be able to do 2 full days as its easier for me for childcare then shove them about everywhere for a few hours

oh well ill get the papers tomorrow and go job center and try my luck

    Hello sweets (and everyone else),
Could the 2 nights on, 4 nights off, mean that, say, you worked Monday and Tuesday night, took Weds/Thurs/Fri/Sat off, then were back on again on Sunday night? If so, it would be 12 hour shifts, more or less. Still tough with the kids the next day, but not quite as horrible?
