We didn't want ours to look like 'ordinary coloured' laminate, so in the flat here, we have Limed Oak, (almost white)throughout.

If I could remember how to post pics I would do so!

In the new house it's Blushed Oak (sort of mauve/purple) all through, upstairs & you can see that in www.theupsidedownhouse.9f.com

    Not conventional colour schemes, either!

It's from B&Q their Aqualoc order only range, with long guarantee & OK for water splashes. NOT the totally waterproof range they also do.

I'd go for engineered wood myself which is a happy medium and has a natural veneer and unlike laminate isn't cold to the touch. One's a photo and the other's natural. There's just no comparison IMO.

Floors2go quite often have some good deals.
  • Quickstep is one of the best brand name laminates in the UK. It is available for both domestic and commercial purposes. http://www.mckayflooring.co.uk sell this product.

Definately Quickstep for me........ as a fitter too, it is probably one of the best laminates around. If I supply, i always recommend it and have it throughout my own rooms. Costs more, but worth it........have a look at the quickstep tiles for a kitchen too, as these look great when offset, and can be mixed if desired. Quickstep floors also interconnect with some of their others, so you could have tiles, and a seperate dining area in wood effect without need for a profile strip.

I would go for a laminate that is guaranteed in kitchens - Pergo.

All other makes, including Quickstep are waranteed, which decreases in value over time whereas a guarantee holds its full value.

Pergo also guarantee Wear, Fading and Staining. All other brands just WARANTEE (key word) wear. So if it fades or stains - no money back......

Costs a couple of quid more, but its piece of mind, Ive got it in every room in my house, including my kitchen. If you want pics just mail me!

After getting loads of documentation and doing quite a bit of research, as far as i'm aware Pergo don't do laminate flooring for a kitchen or bathroom area. The highest water resistancy laminate they make is their Diamond range which is really for commercial installations and might be a bit too pricey for home use.

    Do you know anything different?

Far from it, all the Pergo range is guaranteed in kitchens, just not bathrooms.

And if you read into the small print on any guarantee/warranty for any of the manufacturers they will not cover areas of high humidity (bathrooms!)

Its not the moisture from above that damages a floor in the bathroom but moisture in the air, and even "bathroom laminates" will not cover areas of high humidity. Its a grey area, but its a get out clause!

The diamond collection is just a more durable part of the Pergo range, used in extremely high traffic areas.

I just tried to pull up a picture, but take a look through the Pergo brochure and you will see a selection of kitchen room sets.
