New Car
Options
I want to buy a new car as I'm fed up with 2nd hand ones breaking down all the time.
It must be:
1. Cheap to buy
2. Cheap to run
3. Reliable
4. Preferably have 2 x isofix in the back
I will probably sell it when it is worth £500 in many years.
I don't care what other people think of it or of me as a result. I don't care if it's gutless or will do a million miles an hour. I am considering it on the above 4 criteria at the moment.
Anyone got any thoughts? I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Any of the following:-
Toyota Aygo
Peugeot 107
Citroen C1
They're all the same car built in the same factory, just have slightly different stylings at the front. Citroen are the cheapest of the bunch with the deals currently on offer - Aygo's are the most sort after of the bunch0 -

Thanks.
Do you know why the Aygos are the most wanted rather than the cheaper Citroen? Are they better in some way? From your post it sounds like they're basically the same as each other.0 -

Seriously? It's not like one's a Mercedes and the other is a Trabant. I suppose Toyota have a (deserved IMO) reputation for reliability and Citroen don't.
It's funny how peoples' minds work.
What price should I aim to pay for one of the Citroens? I've never bought a new car before. Presumably the asking price is a car company sales director's idea of a joke.0 -

look at pre registered models, should get one for around £6000.
or you could wait for the release of this bad boy http://motoring.sky.com/news_features/galleries/tata-nano--geneva-motor-show.aspx...work permit granted!0 -
If you want to run a car a long time I would seriously consider a Kia Ceed, every bit a good as a Ford Focus (except the very edge of chucking around a corner), better made in many places, attractive and with the killer blow - a SEVEN year factory warranty. Pick up a new 1.6 petrol for £10k, very good diesel also, might pay for itself if you keep long term. We have had two Kia's and they are cheap to run. They are far better than the motoring press want people to know (due to advertising revenue from big brands paying their salaries!!)
Also the new Rio is excellent but only normal 3 year warranty, again good engines and diesel.0 -
a japanese diesel... or, and I'm not joking
Hyundai i30 1.4 comfort - £11,155 OTR - its about an Astra/Focus size car
Hyundai i10 1.1 classic - £6745 - Micra size car
5 year warranty with either. Think Kia's give 5 year warranty as well...0 -

I would definitely drive a Tata Nano if nothing else to annoy people who feel that a car is some kind of extension of their personality or status symbol. Driving for fun I understand but a car is a piece of engineering, no more no less. I should have a load of cash in about 3 years if all goes to plan - perhaps I should import one and join a country club.
£6k is a good target price. It's about what I pay to keep my Renault Piece de Merde on the road each year.
Thanks very much to all respondants. The Kia is a great idea but short term price considerations are likely to have a higher weighting for me than the fact that I'm thinking of owning for a long time. I might test drive one in case.
Mrs Generali hates Ford so we can forget those.
Hyundai - see Kia. Will test drive JIC.
PS inch high - are you named after Inch High Private Eye? I loved that 'toon when I was a mere Generalissimo.0 -
fiat panda always come up on the cheapest new car search on autotrader0
