Has anyone used hypnosis as a help to weight loss ?

I'm going to give it a go albiet it's pricey but wanted to know other peoples thoughts.

Many thanks

I have never used it myself as I am a hypnotherapist. I do it for others but can I be nosey and ask what you call pricey and how many sessions are being suggested.
    It does work though.

I could be wrong about it being pricey - just having never used this service before. I've been advised that it's £80 per session - the first session lasting 2 hours (not sure if I have to pay £160) and will probably need 3 sessions with more for maintenance down the line if required.

Seems a lot of money but I've spent a lot of money on slimming classes, exercise classes in general and am prepared to try this. I know I have to change my lifestyle and eating habits but just need a push.

have you tried the paul mckenna book/cd - I can make you thin or similar? I've listened to his cds before and they are quite motivational.

I got a really good one off ebay. The company were called Here to Listen. It does help keep you on the straight and narrow and if not, you will get a good nights sleep!!!

Cheaper to try this first than shell out for a live hypnotherapist. After the sessions they just give you a cd or tape anyway, well that was my experience when I tried to stop smoking. This was years ago mind. Good luck.

Ha Ha you pay for what you get. Hopefully hypnotherapists have moved on. The idea of giving you the tape was so that if you complained that you hadnt given up they could say "ah I know the problem. You havent listened to the tape every other day have you?" Making it your fault.
Tapes can only go so far and of course are generic. A good therapist doesnt use scripts but gives individual treatment for each of his clients but yes can cost more.

I agree Absolutebounder. I am talking probably 25 years ago! I would definitely prefer to see a good hypnotherapist but when I got the cd I was pretty skint and in the interests of money saving it seemed the best course of action. I did get a stone off (another half to go) but I did it very slowly in the hopes of keeping it off for good!

I suspect that it is a three pronged attack, the hypnotherapy, the willingness of the client to deny themselves instant gratification food wise, and a good balanced healthy diet.

I will be interested to see how the OP gets on.

I tried many years ago, but couldn't be hypnotised, so it didn't work for me. And I really didn't like it. I've lost weight now by cutting out snacks and eating healthy meals, it really is the best way. I have also tried hypnosis tapes, a long time ago, I think it helped a little but really not very much.

I was reading the Cambridge Diet thread last night and it was inspirational! I'm considering trying it, if I can't shift my last couple of stone, which seem to be stuck! I know it doesn't change your eating habbits for the best but something like that may give you the kick start you need.

Good luck with the hypnosis, let us know how it goes.

I'm trying it mainly to see if it will help my willpower as well. I'm pretty hopeless at sticking to diets especially if I'm tired so hoping this could get me past this stumbling stage.

Will update after my session tomorrow

    hi,

I went on a course this weekend to Alston Hall in Preston to learn the Emotional Freedom Technique... I was supposably done for junk food (haribo, biscuits etc) which I often binge on and so far I havent had any urges...

I've considered hypnosis too so will be following this with interest.
