Threatening to cancel sky to reduce costs?

Hey guys. My 12 month contract with Sky expired a month ago. In september I'm moving back to Stafford (am a student) and am debating whether to take sky with me.

I pay £57 a month for the full internet, sky + with all channels, and sky talk included.

Now if I ring up and threaten to cancel will they lower that cost? Or will I be wasting my money on the 0845 number!

Thanks

First off ask to speak to the retention dept at Sky. Instead of threatening anything, just ask them that you're looking elsewhere & was wondering if they can reduce the cost of your services. They'll say how much they can do it for & then go from there.

When I was moving and wanted to take Sky with me, I phoned up to inform them of the move they were going to charge me £60 moving fee (for new dish installation) I said I wouldn't pay it and would just go with someone else, they scrapped the installation fee and offered me half price for 3 months to stay with them.

If you are going to say you will be going elsewhere look at the offers available and quote the deal you would be going for, don't just make up random info.
  • Well I wouldn't get a better deal elsewhere but if they don't reduce costs I'm tempted just to go with freeview and seperate internet

I would just say that, just as long as you have something to say. You will almost certainly be offered a reduction if only for a few months.

I phoned up recently and said I was considering going to virgin as I was offered a good deal they asked for the details of the offer once I gave this they cut my package by half for 6 months, I was also offered sky+ box for free. If they had checked my postcode I am not able to get cable here.
  • Thanks for that :) I'd be looking for an 8 month reduction minimum, the length of time I'll be in the student property. I'm assuming you get locked into a 12 month contract again?

As I'm currently paying £57 a month, unless they will go to £45 I won't take it. I'll see if I can find an offer from Virgin to use lol.

I didn't get locked into a 12 month contract no just the length of time the reduction was for. They should match the virgin offer, do you already have sky+?
  • I already have sky+ yes, though I just went on sky, pretended I was a new customer, chose everything I wanted and it came to £44 a month lol!

    Lots of barganing options :p
