Quote for wetroom installation in London flat

Options
I've had this quote for a wetroom in my existing bathroom (approx 3m x 2m), any opinions?

Remove existing toilet, bath and basin
Install wetroom area in bathroom
Create new ceiling with 4 spotlights
Move basin location

Quote is £4,000 + VAT. I would have to supply all materials (shower, basin, tiles etc).

Does this sound a fair quote?

I am paying around £3500 labour costs for a complete new bathroom, old one ripped out, tiling, plumbing, electrics etc and all materials I pay for extra. I live in south west London so sounds in the right ball park.
  • That sounds a bit pricey, i would charge around £3500 including vat.

This is exactly what I want in my bathroom and, after having 4 plumbers/bathroom companies round, I've only got 1 quote for the actual complete job which is £7,500 (I'm in N. E. Lincolnshire). This does include materials though (loo, basin, shower, shower screen panel etc.).

It seems to me like no-one wants the job! I even rang some guys that had been recommended in our local paper for 'Service With A Smile'! They never even got back with a quote at all!

I'll keep trying to find someone.

I've got another bathroom company coming round tomorrow evening so I'll see what they come up with.

    Hi

I had a complete wet room put in last year and including materials it was £3500. I am disabled so no VAT to pay. The company was called Aidapt and are based in Orpington I think.

I'm having the exact same problem....can't even get people to show up to quote!! It's driving me insane, I physically can't spend the money! One firm even came round, measured up, spend half an hour there one evening quite late then didn't send a quote, even after I chased. I'm losing the will to live!

hi all, i am a builder doing may of these jobs a year in and around london, its not always as easy as it seems to price up a job quickly, we to have to take the kids football, swimming and where ever else they need to go in the evening and at weekends and not forgetting the wifes needs as well.so all these jobs that need to be priced have to be done late at night after a hard days work, or a spare moment at the weekends, so please be patient with
the builder he too has a life after work. good luck with getting your estimates.
  • Also in SW London and also getting bathroom done (fairly small). Quote is around £3.7k which includes removing old suite/tiles, new suite, creating a boxed in area with shelves etc for back to wall toilet and washbowl sink, new lights, instal new rad, tile entire area. He is supplying all materials such as grout, piping etc but we are supplying bathroom suite and tiles.

To be honest this is a very good quote for the work being done and everyone else came out a fair bit more expensive (around £4k+). This guy did some work for friends though and after looking over the job he did and speaking to him a few times we are very happy.

I would think your £4k seems about right. However, be wary if they are going to charge you extra for materials - you could be opening yourself up for a big extra charge.

Key thing is to get a few quotes in. If possible go with recommendations but that isn't always possible. Other thing to bear in mind is seeking people from further outside London. If you get people from the outskirts rather than, say, Putney, they are likely to be a bit cheaper.
