Buying an Apple Mac

HI

Was wondering if anyone knows of a cheap place to buy an Apple Macbook Pro?

My son needs one for a uni course and from what I have seen they are very expensive!

Thanks

I would say the best place is directly through the Apple Store as they give a considerable discount to students.
I think (might be wrong) its something like 13/14% discount so definitely worth considering.

Applestore also has reconditioned Macs which you might find interesting. They come with warranty etc.
  • Cheap and apple probably don't belong in the same sentence/paragraph/universe. I'd give ebay a try.
  • If he buys it when he is at uni then he can get it through the Apple Store for Higher Education, however that is only accessible from university networks, all other networks are blocked.

He can also get one from the Apple Education Store, you don't save as much and you will be looking at upwards of £900

What does he need it for?
I ask because Macbooks are pretty powerful these days if it has to be a mac. Otherwise a PC laptop running Windows XP or Vista would almost certainty have as good a spec for about 60-80% of the price of a Macbook Pro.

But if it's running XP or Vista, how can it have as good a spec? :p

Never had a problem with XP :D But when the laptop died I was faced with a choice of a Mac or Linux. Wouldn't touch Vista

People the thread is about where can i get a cheap mac book pro,
lets not start the mac PC debate again this has been done before,

try the refurb store they have some god discounts and as already said you get a full years warranty and sometimes end up with a virtually brand new machine

    Thanks for the info.

He is doing computer graphics and animation come september but the uni have recommended a Macbook pro. When I asked her if she had any recommendations for buying one, she said "Google it" !! That was helpful!

We have looked at the refurbished on Apple Store and it looks like that will be the best bet really. They have a helpline so might give them a call and see what they say.

If they have any sense they will give students a good discount as I've heard said many times once you use a mac you never look back!!

    Thanks again.
