What to do with BT phone/broadband

Hi.

We are currently paying £40 a month to BT for phone and broadband! However we genuinely NEVER use our landline to make calls and rarely even receive calls on it - we use our mobiles any time we need to make a call which is rare as we both don't like talking for length on the phone! We are always in credit with BT and are now looking at ways of getting our monthly bills down.

We are free now to leave our internet contract and we were thinking of getting rid of our homephone altogether, but understand that for most broadband providers you need a BT landline.

What are our best options?

Also our internet useage is basic really only browsing, banking and e-mailing. We never really download anything.

Many thanks for any advice :o

We are in exactly the same position as you. Paying over £40 per month for BB and phone with BT. Like you, we rarely use our landline ( we have a hub phone) and are looking for something cheaper.

Why don't you check out if cable is in your street and look into a cable bundle of phone and broadband from a supplier such as Virgin?

I was out of contract and offered a paltry £2 a month reduction by letter.
I rang BT (0800 800150) and asked for my migration code (MAC) to cancel my BT Option 2.
They came down from £19.94 to £13.99 per month for the broadband and reduced line rental by over £2 to under £12 based on agreeing a new 12mth contract.
Thats around an £8\mth saving for one free phone call - plus a new HomeHub on the way.
As I've never had poblems with my BT service I was happy to stay though there are cheaper service providers if you make the switch. I'v read another post that claims to have haggled a £14.99 deal for Option 3.

You dont need a phone. Virgin Media Cable Broadband only. £9 a month for 12 months, then renegotiate the price.;)
