HSBC Question

I am planning on moving my bank account over to HSBC next year for several reasons, they are migrating their debit card system over to Visa...yay and they have quite a good rep from reading peoples comments on here, I currently bank with Alliance and Leicester but I have read too many horror stories about them and I am now starting to feel uncomfortable, besides they have limited amount of branches and I was told politely where to go from their Newcastle branch when I told them I was a premier direct account holder, so when my credit rating is better and I have 3 years of traceable address history I will go into branch and apply, so any HSBC customers out there with any feed back, the floor is open!
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

I have banked with HSBC for almost 6 years and would say they are a decent bank to go with - relatively responsive and willing to look into queries. Their staff in branch are generally helpful and knowledgeable about their products (although as with everything, best to do your own research).
At the same time, I bank with First Direct as well, and I would actually say it might be worth looking at them as an alternative. You can collect cards, deposit cheques etc at any HSBC branch (never found the need to use a branch for any other reason) so it is fairly convenient. You'll also find that their telephone support/service is brilliant - my personal experience has been that they have answered after one ring.

(Mind you though, the interest rates are not competitive ...)

Thanks for the replies so far guy's, I am more convinced to go with them, some nice tottie @ the Newcastle branch. you know as you glance in the window as you walk by (don't tell my lass I said that  ), only joking, but they seem very professional though and like I said before I prefer Visa over Meastro and as they are switching to Visa at the end of 2008, when I apply in 2009 things should go through just fine.

Hi moved over to HSBC last month - the move was the easiest current a/c transfer ever - and i've been through a few over the last twenty years.
So far so good although early days .
Were very helpful when setting account up - always got back to me within a matter of minutes and with a resolution to the problem - always good.
All cards received straightawat with chq book paying book etc etc and have visited the local branch a few times for help and seen straightaway.
Don't know if because i have moved everything over mortgage savings etc that they are behaving at the mo but i am more than pleased!
online banking facility very easy to use and i am able to transfer money in between my savings and current with extreme ease.

When you were in the Newcastle HSBC, were you holding an Alliance & Leicester current account brouchure?

HSBC is great, and I like all the automatic stuff in the Newcastle branch

yes, I was paying in my moneybags in the machine which counts coins for free, unlike coinstar machines.
