I was living in a house with 4friends this year we went with Virgin and it was really good because they messed up :D
I found a package online...can't remember what it was but I remember you got £10 off the set-up charge if you signed up online...so I phoned up just to enquire about something and they told me about a package where I could get the middle broadband package (they do 3 speeds), plus the basic TV package, plus free calls to landlines (ANY time, not just evenings/weekends) for £27 a month and if I signed up then on the phone they would still give me the £10 off the installation. I couldn't say yes then as I had to ask my housemates. I spoke to them and we all agreed and I couldn't find this £27/month package online so phoned up to ask how to get it and they again said I could do it on the phone and they would give me the £10 internet discount (desperate for comission? lol). So I said ok and signed up. When the contract came (a few days after it was set up - and it was set up quickly with no problems and no mess btw) it looked a bit confusing so I phoned to check it was right and they told me we were on the lowest broadband...the same phone and tv as I thought we had...and was £20 not £27. They said they could put us on the middle broadband speed and it would be £25 (not sure where the £27 came from :S). The speed seeemed ok (we don't DL much) so I said we would keep the speed for now and would upgrade if we didn't like it. Soooo then every month the bills came and they were £2 a month, not £20 - so between the 5 of us in the house cost about 50p a month each - bargain!!! This went on for about 9months untill they changed their billing system and it must have corrected it but luckily didn't charge us for all the previous months they undercharged.
Also...it was a 12month contract and we were only there for 9 or 10 months - I don't think you can get a shorter contract anywhere. I phoned up the other day to ask them to cut it off and send me a bill for the remaining months in one go - and they told me they would cut it off and we didn't have to pay for the remaining months! Bargain! Sooo for a years worth of TV/free landline calls/broadband cost us about....£60 between the 5 of us :D:D:D

I think the way to go is Virgin Media. Phone and Broadband, plus TV, for possibly no more than a simple BT Line and calls for the month. That's if you're lucky enough to live in a cabled area.
