Dell inspiron 1525 gets HOT

Options
Hello all,

I bought a Dell inspiron 1525 laptop and it gets so at the part where you rest your hands to type and by the mouse pad. I think that's where they've put the CPU and the plastic is so thin that you can really feel it when typing that i keep having to get a rest from typing because my hands overheat!

Has anyone experienced this with dell lappies? Have you considered returning it or returned it?

I've found my XPS M1330 to remain really cool.

Can you hear the fan running? If you can't hear the fan then perhaps its stopped working. Laptops usually shut off as a safety measure before they would start to pose a risk to the user.
  • hey 3.....

the fan comes on yes, i think there is a whirring nnoise, it wouldn't be the HD working would it?

I have an inspiron 1525 and while the area you mention is not as cool as most of the rest of the machine I certainly wouldn't call it hot.
  • well I certainly wouldn't describe it as warm...
  • My Toshiba has a sticker on the bottom warning about the dangers of "laptop burn". After reading this article I'm careful where I rest it!

I dont have an inspiron but my Latitude gets quite warm over the hard drive.

If you are using the computer on your lap make sure the air vents on the bottom or sides of the case are not blocked by leg or clothing so the fans can blow the hot air out.

You can buy or improvise a laptop tray for sofa use.

Most recommendations from the Dell forums are to install this small program, 18kfanGUI, that you can set to make the fans activate sooner than the default settings on a Dell laptop. It will show temps of the CPU if required plus the fan speeds.
    I use it for my 1520 .

And yes, either use a flat tray and/or use something to prop up the rear of the laptop slightly to aid the dissipation of heat.

    Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 n just like your laptop it was running so hot that you could not keep it on your lap after a while. I installed 18kfanGUI and it showed temperatures as high as 65 -70 degrees.
After trawling through a few web sites, I found that the fan and the heat sink get blocked by dust.
I bit the bullet and disassembled the laptop as per the instructions on dell.com. The fan and heat sink were completely blocked. Cleaned them out and it runs at 30 - 35 degrees now, hence prolonging the life span.
N.B.- Please do it on your own risk. You just need a fine screw driver and you will need the pictures and guidance notes from the dell.com website open on another computer unless you have photographic memory.
    Hope it helps.
