Which Car?
Options
Hi everybody,
I am planning to buy a used car for my wife and after doing some research I shortlisted 5 models.
1. Peugeot 206 2002-2003
2 Fiat Punto 2003
3 Renault Clio 2002
4 Ford Ka 2003
5 Vauxhall corsa 2002
These cars are based on average mileage of upto 60,000 and are in range of £2000
Can somebody please help me decide the one which is most reliable and economical to maintain and run?
Thanks

Any of the above cars with that milegae on are to be avoided...
206 - will be flimsy
Punto - will be full of faults
Clio - actually is probably the best bet
KA - will have a dry engine
Corsa - if its a 1.0 avoid, avoid, avoid. Timing chains and oil starvation!
The KA will be mosre fun to drive, but has that awful 1.3 engine. Clio makes more sense cos Renault's have decent spec. Even base ones.0 -
We have just gone through the used car search and I would say, from experience over the last few weeks - researching online, reading reviews and test driving to stay away from Fiats, Peugeot and Renaults. Just our personal opinion after the last 4 weeks of searching but best of luck in whatever you purchase.
You should go to whatcar.com and type in the model and make - read the professional and actual customer reviews also they're truthful and quite handy - we found that most of the comments tied in with our experience of test driving cars over the last 4 weeks.
Remember to haggle haggle!
Best of luck

Dismiss all 5 and go for a Nissan Micra. Easy to drive, economical and ultra reliable.0

I suppose I would put the missus in one.........but round here they are always at the front of 500 yard queue of cars.;)
My hit list of top 3 slowest driven cars includes this...lol.
List is a bit dated now but used to have the Rover Metro (100) at the top of the list.:D
Harvey is the old 1.2 Corsa not pretty bomb proof?0 -
Forget the corsa - simply horrible cars, the air flow meter has gone 3 times on mine and it's just had a new crank sensor.
Before I got the corsa ( as a cheap runaround for me and my daughter to share) I had 3 x Dawoo lanos, they are dirt cheap to buy and insure, the 1.3 is a bit gutless, but the 1.6 is a great car.
For a Ford, go for a fiesta, although you will pay double what you would for a lanos.
Suzuki swifts are another cheap car to buy as well as a Daewoo Matiz."There is a light that never goes out"0 -
The Corsa 1.2 is much better. But only buy a corsa with a low mileage as you can possibly afford.
Avoid the 1.00 -
Look for something Japanese if you are looking for reliability.
Nissan Micra, Suzuki Swift, Honda Jazz/Civic for example0 -
Thanks for ur replies.
I am basically looking for an economical cheap to insure and run car.
What about toyota yaris or skoda fabia?
Should I also worry about resale value as old suzuki swift or daewoo matiz dont seem to have good resale value but i may be wrong?0 -
I think a Fabia, circa 2002 vintage, average mileage, 1.4 engine should be worth a look.0
