Sky Broadband; existing customer installation charge

Hello!!

I currently have BT Broadband Option 3, however I think that we are paying far too much for this. I am thinking about transferring to Sky Broadband Mid package, which is £5 p/m instead of BT's £25 p/m!!!

However, as an existing customer (have Sky TV and pay £45 p/m) they want to charge £50 installation fee.... If I was a new customer it would be £30..... Not exactly rewarding loyalty really is it.

To behonest I don't really like Sky as a company, however,if it will save me £20 p/m then im happy to just go with it.

Has anyone who is an existing customer ever got out of paying this charge, or does anyone know of any discounts/offers?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, I did not have to pay any connection charge and due to an error on their part they compensated me by giving me free call anytime for a year (normally £5 a month extra)

I contacted them and basically said I wanted to know what my notice period was as I needed to move to Virgin to save money, they came back (after a little discussion) with all sorts of inducements to stay.

However as I mentioned on the mobile phone section, I always try to be as polite and friendly as possible, after all the people there are only doing their job and getting shouted at is not likely to induce them to try and help you, whilst being nice to them (especially if they have had an unpleasant caller before you) puts them in the frame of mind where they try to help, and often go out of their way to solve your problems.

    Thank you Rebel.

Had thought of ringing up to cancel to see if they would offer any incentives....but when I dont really want to cancel I feel a little naughty!! Think I will give it a go though.

Also where I am I am unable to receive Virgin Media...Does anyone know if Customer Services/Retentions have access to this information? (I.e. would they know I was blagging and call my bluff??!!)

If you take Sky Talk, the connection charge is only 25 pounds. So thats only working out at 85 pounds over the year for up to 8mb broadband with 40gb useage which is really cheap....Neil
