Registering a Death

Definately not necessary to have a birth certificate to register the death...
Did so for friend of a relative recently, they may, at registrar office, state it a 'poor' entry but beats no entry at all.

No. all of the above posts are correct. you don't need a birth certificate to register a death.
A couple of points (practical and boring)
I live on the wirral, so i know these happen here
you need to book an appointment with the registrar.
You get the original certificate free then they are £2.50ish then but if you want more later they are far more expensive.
Depending on who the certificate is for you might need more for banking and probate stuff,
The registrars are extremely helpful giving you information and forms as well, for social security perpouses, and changing/stopping mail.
I hope that it goes well, any other questions ask.....
i hope that someone is going with you don't go alone.....
take care of yourself
Oooh I live on the Wirral too

What do you mean by *poor* entry?:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
I registered the death of a friend of my aunt who dropped dead, heart failure, in her house. She herself has a form of dementia, was a week till discovery of her there with the dead body. He was a long standing friend of hers but I was left to sort out the funeral etc., at a distance (stay good bit away) on her behalf.
No info. on his parents, no birth certificate etc.
The 'poor entry' comment was made by someone at the registrars' office when I enquired about burying him... having gone through procurator fiscal etc. (stay in Scotland)
Never again I say!
But, can say categorically no birth certificate needed to bury someone... anyone can bury anyone really.
Best wishes.

So I'll ask again what you mean by *poor* entry.
Maybe I'm missing something.
I know all the info that the BC would carry, I just dont have it.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
I think the official was being facetious.... as I said to her, while very stressed & in the middle of it all, a 'poor' entry was better than no entry!
Had I not taken responsibility to bury my aunt's friend then he would have had a council 'pauper's' funeral.
The officials just like an answer to all the questions, all boxes ticked... life isn't always so simple.

Im sorry that you had to deal with all that but my situation is nothing like. I asked a simple question ~ I didnt need paupers funerals to be hinted at ~ Im confused to your replies to be honest but thanks for the confirmation re the cert.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! I expanded my reply as you asked for more info.
Sorry if offended.
I repeat, I dealt with a situation for burying someone where far more than the death certificate was missing. On advice from the fiscal's office a death certificate was not necessary.
So... your initial query answered.

Tigtag, sorry for your loss.
I registered my father's death recently and although the birth certificate was not needed, they did ask for his NHS card which they kept. Im sure if we hadnt had it, it wouldnt have been a major problem though.
We were asked Dads details ie date/place of birth, occupation etc and also my Mums as well as his spouse, which I wasnt prepared for - wasnt sure whether she would want to be put down as housewife so had to ring her and check which was less than ideal.
hope all goes ok on Monday.0
