Original Style Tiles

I have seen some wall tiles by Original Style which I really like in a local tile showroom but when I asked for a price list and the price of the tiles I liked, they got all mysterious and said it would have to be phoned through to the suppliers for a quote. There are no prices on the OS website. Has anyone used them or knows a site where there are some prices? I am a bit suspicious that my loca stockists cannot or will not provide prices.

  • My local tile showroom does them, and I had to select the pattern I wanted, tell them the area and then they phoned Original Style for a price. Please be aware they are VERY VERY expensive, just to give you an idea, I was looking at an area approx 1m squared (my porch) and I wanted a victorian style to match the period of my home. I liked the design on the front cover of the brochure, and the design itself, including a border all around was £400 including VAT. You also need someone to lay them that knows what they are doing (I was quoted approx £200 by a tiler to remove existing tiles, dig up broken concrete which has sunk in places, relay concrete, fit tiles and apply special coating. So all in all an expensive job!! And no I haven't had it done !!There are other companies that make similar tiles. Ill have a look on the net in a minute and post some links back. Not sure if they have prices. It might be worth having a look on Ebay as they often have old victorian encaustic floor tiles on there, failing that, is there a reclamation yard nearby that might have what you are looking for?

Original Style tiles are beautiful but they are very expensive. One of the reasons is that they do a humungous choice of finishes - hence they're difficult to price. My guess is that the local tile shop has made mistakes in pricing them in the past and so will now only give prices quoted by the manufacturer.

If you can find a similar tile from another supplier, that you like, which is a standard pattern, it's going to be cheaper and easier to price!

  • Well they are expensive, no doubt, but do not forget that tiles in general last for a long, long period of time; if not indefinite :)

See originalstyleprices. wordpress. com for why you can no longer view Original Style Prices online. All shops with online prices have been told to remove them or their accounts will be closed. Many of them believe this is unfair. There are many reputable tile companies in the UK and I would recommend you google tile suppliers in England, if you are looking for best prices. Bear in mind shops around London have much higher rents and rates :):)

There is an alternative to Original Style - Winklemans - http://www.winckelmans.com

This is a French manufacturer of encaustic geometric tiles. You'll need to email them to find UK distributors.

It's worth an email to them at least.

Also try these people:- http://www.oldeenglishtiles.co.uk/(may well be selling Original Style or Wincklemans I'm not sure).
