Those of you having trouble: what are you doing differently to us then?
I don't get it.
I've only done a first attempt as well and the bread was great!
Don't give up, that would be such a shame! The bread is really really delish, and very easy to do.
There must be a good reason for it not working for you. Otherwise it's plain luck for me. Cuz I ain't that great a baker... Honestly. Is your oven working right?..

I used 2lb of strong flour (2/3 white , 1/3 wholemeal), 750 ml of water, 2 tbsp yeast & 1 tbsp ordinary salt. I have no temp on my oven as it is an Aga - but mine was wrong before I put it in - it spread like a pancake so i made a pizza from it!! I have no idea what i am doing wrong, I'm not a great cook but I'm not used to failure like this......New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
Panny = Panasonic Bread machine, greatest maker of bread hitherto invented, which may be under serious threat if this method is so easy and quick ! See the 'I love my Panny' thread. !!!! Tho it is a bit sad to love a kitchen machine so much isn't it ? But the Panny is SOOO good and easy, and versatile and wonderful....oh dear, there I go again0

Sashanut: I can't imagine what happened there either. Sounds just fine!
Maybe if you try again, go a bit more by the feel and look of it rather then stiking to the recipe exactly. If it's too runny add a bit of flower.. if it's too dry add a drop of water.
i'm pretty sure the amount of yeast and salt can take a bit here and there of extra water/flour. A few grams shan't make too much difference.
Maybe there was something in the water.. ;-)
Don't give up though!
Soo just to give you guys an idea here's a pic (great idea sister!) of my rolls
that I did in the muffin tin. And a tryout cinnemon rolls before going into the oven.
Sorry if the piccies are a bit big.. tried to rezise them anyway..0 -

Well, my sister and I can spend hours talking about bread and cinnamon rolls.

So how bad can you be?0 -
I've been reading this thread for 2 days now and couldn't wait to have a go.
just done the mixture.... used 6.5cups strong flour, 3 cups water, 2 sachets dried yeast and just under tablespoon of table salt.
when I mixed it it was very dry(based on what you all have commented)so gradually added more and ended up with about 3.75 cups water in all. Been left about 45mins to rise so far and smells all warm and yeasty:D . rising well too..
unfortunately i just joined slimming club last week so really i shouldn't be doing this:eek: then again there's no sugar or fat in this bread so it must be slimming right????:p
will let you know how i get on.....
by the way - this may be a silly question but is the WOODEN spoon necessry?? as in wine making you never use metal ! is it relevant here???
thanks

I think the yeast might be a bit much. ;-)
But probablywon't hurt.it just might taste yeasty and rise a lot.
It's not heavy because it's mostly air! that's what gives it the lovely texture.
Tell us how it works out right?0 -
Maybe this might help those who are having problems http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com/?page_id=73if i had known then what i know now0
