This is a common problem, and is the reason I am still hesitating to leave BT Yahoo (great service, but £27 a month for 512k  ).

Yes, you can usually log on to websites for which you usually use your email address as your password and change it - I suggest you do it for every website you can think of that you have registered with (as they will all probably have your email address, and will use it to prove your identity should you ever forget your password).

Also, don't use the email addresses that come with your next ISP or you will face the same problem next time you want to change - get some free ones from a reliable company instead.

look for the free gmail (google email) thread and get yourslef a google email account which you can access via the web or via Outllook Express.

it's a one off thing, you have to move all your accounts to the gmail address but once you are up and running you will NEVER have to change email again no matter what ISP you decide to use

  • Hey Browntoa, can you explain this a bit more? How does gmail work?
Tried to get it once and didn't work so I gave up. Do not have broadband as unavailable in area and dial up speed mind bogglingly slow.

get yourself a .co.uk address which you can then point any ISP address too
Cost £10 for 2 years but at least you have control over it

https://www.easily.co.uk will tell you if flossy.co.uk is still free

I have almost aways since using the interent for email had my own domain name, because I was often swapping ISPs, even with broadband I have swapped several times, yet my email address remains the same.

https://www.1and1.co.uk charge £1.99+VAT per year for a co.uk , you can point these to your ISP address, or for £0.69+VAT per month extra you can have a dedicated POP3 account, and collect the emails direct from their email server and not have them forwarded to your ISP email server.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Hello piltonvet,

If you have broadband with AOL and you want to change providers, make sure that you ask them for a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code). This enables a transfer of services from one provider to the next with little down time. It makes it a lot easier to switch providers and it's nicer for you as you won't have to go without broadband.

You need to prompt them to give you a MAC and they probably won't offer you one unless you ask them. Once you get a MAC sign up with a new provider and give them the MAC number.

I did this recently to take advantage of the 4 months free for migrating with Madasafish. I did not have to go without broadband, it worked well!

    Cheers!

you can get fresh drivers from the Bt site

    http://www.voyager.bt.com/usb100/downloads.htm

will work ok with ANY broadband (they seem to be "clean" unbranded drivers ;) )
