Bailiffs coming for unpaid parking ticket... HELP!!

hi
My wife was in tears this morning because a bailiff turned up at our door for 3 unpaid parking tickets.
the parking tickets are genuine and yes they should have been paid but at the time i couldnt and so they werent.
the bailiff has visited the house once yet has charged 135.08 x 3 = 405.24 in visit charges because there are three tickets outstanding. this means 3 x £95 now becomes 729.72!!!!!!
they've also charged 13.16 x 3 for "sending a letter" which i swear we never received any of - otherwise i'd have paid up on the spot!
now i dont want to upset the wife further but i dont see how they can justify 405 quid for one visit and 40 quid for letters i genuinely havent had!
trouble is they have written on the letter they are coming back on the 5th - do i have any redress against this or do i just take it on the chin and pay up?
please help!!!!!
Leighton

That really doesn't seem right but I do not know enough about baliffs. Can you get straight down to your local Citizens advice Centre? I have found them to be brilliant, and even wrote a couple of letters for me.
Good luck, I hope someone here can help properly, there are some great people on here...First Direct Loan....£5000
First Direct gold card (0% for the moment) -£5,366.99

You can challenge the payment but once bailiffs are involved it's very difficult to get the charges reduced. If they come back again the bill will be even higher. I'd just pay up and never ignore another parking ticket again. Having said that, £729 seems excessive." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Turning into a bit of a sport deleting their posts really
Persistent although apparently too thick to understand the board rules - not great advertising for their company - OP sorry to take your thread off topic

And there it is clearly up at the top of the Forum page:
" Don't post links for personal gain. Except in the referrers section and always declare any interest"
If you're really altruistic and "just want to help people out" then do it FOC or maybe stick to paid adverts like any other professional concern.
Edit: Cor blimey mods, that was impressively quick - it's gone already.........

Those charges look excessive to me, although this is not an area I'm up to speed on.
There are some examples of what they should charge here: Example of Bailiff’s Fees for unpaid PCN’s

Thanks for sending that PM - much appreciated!

I would hazard a guess that if they visit you once, they can only charge for 1 visit. In your position, I would be tempted to settle up for the tickets immediately and look at putting the bailiff fees into disputeAfter the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
Looks like it. :rolleyes:How much will the bailiff charge me?
For many bailiffs, the simple answer is….. whatever he can get away with.
Bailiff charges are the most common area of dispute. The following is just a small example:
• Fees not permitted, e.g. when no levy has been made.
• Fees that are spurious, e.g. ‘enforcement" , "attending to remove" ’ and ‘clamping’ fees.
• Charges that are unreasonable and disproportionate to the amount of the debt.
• Charging for "alledged" or "phantom" visits that did not actually take place.
• Multiple charges for enforcing more than one Liability Order or more than one Parking Charge Notice at the same visit.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Silly question, but why did you ignore the original fines?0
