3G coverage.

Before getting a new nokia 6680 on 3G, how can i be sure that i will be able to get decent service, i am worried that once i get home i won't get a decent signal, thus making it pointless in getting a 3G.
I am currently on orange, which is pretty good for the north of england.

    Hi Dunkyboy,

You could try the 3G coverage checker which is here on the 3 website:

    http://www.three.co.uk/explore/coverage/networkdetail.omp

Just type in your postcode and away you go,

    Hope this helps. ;)

  • So far as I am aware (and I could be wrong):
The '3' network works on 2 signals. They have there own 3G signal which has lots of gaps and poor recetion areas in it. so they use O2 for there 2G (normal calls no video) coverage. This means that if you don't have a 3G siganl then you will have access for the O2 signal - which is excellent throughout the UK.

Basically - I'm on 3 and I've never not had signal!

Sounds fantastic, but '3' phones are programmed to find the 3G signal first (as they pay a fee to O2 for the 2G useage) which means if you are in an area with only 1 bar of 3G and 4 bars of 2G - the phone will still look for the 3G siganl first.
The only time this can be a problem is if where you use the phone most (say at home) has a weak 3G signal, it can (but not very often) result in trouble dialing.

All that said my flat is one of these places with weak 3G signal and I have still signed up for another year.

    Sorry this is so long!

This is only the Three Network checker.

Other networks also are now offering 3g you dont just have to go Three to get it anymore.
