• ur correct not the manager" sale of goods...not fit 4 purpose entitled to refund"

call argos customer services complain about manager lying to u

seaniboy is nearly right. Under The Sale Of Goods Act ( as amended)1979  **SOGA**, any goods you buy must be of satisfactory quality, and free from minor defects. Fit for the purpose only applies if you had asked the staff whether it would perform a particular task, and it then failed to do so. The 16 policy that Argos quote has no bearing in consumer legislation. It is simply a service offered by the store. Under the SOGA, any goods which are faulty can be returned to the store of purchase before they are deemed to have been accepted. For most goods this is approx. 1-2 weeks. If returned within this time, you can request a refund or replacement, your choice. If they say there is no fault, ask them to prove it. Within the first 6 months of purchase, a trader must prove that the goods were not faulty at the time of purchase. This should be by an indepedent means, NOT their head office, who have a vested interest in saying the goods are ok. If the acceptance time limit has expired, the company has the choice to try a repair. If this repair fails, you then become entitled to a replacement, or if this not available, a refund.
Do NOT listen to stores who tell you that you will have to contact the manufacturer. You have no contract with the manufacturer, and therefore no legal rights against them, other than what they offer in their guarantee. I work for Trading Standards in Northern Ireland as a Consumer Advisor, and will happily answer any of these queries if PM'd.
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.
