You need to be insured to drive the car away - otherwise it's being driven uninsured, so not ASAP - straight away. (Some sellers will remove the tax as that forces the buyer to get insurance in order to buy the tax).
The V5 will be completed by both buyer and seller. The new owner will get a small new owners slip, and later in the post the full V5. This is usable for taxing and so on.
You can get a "HPI check" online, but do not know where the cheapest place is. If it comes up with something that was not mentioned in the auction description, I believe you can not pay for the car and report goods not as described to ebay.0 -
You have already bought the car! Unless the car is not as described when you go to collect it, morally ( It can be legally) you are obliged to pay for it.What do we need to do when buying it
Take a friend who knows about cars with you, but, show them the description of the car on ebay first so he will be able to compare the words to the car. If there is big difference, then you can cancel buying it as it was not as described, but, if it was, then you should pay for it accordingly.
When you collect it, you and the seller sign the documents accordingly and the seller should cut a small slip off the registration documents that will show you as the owner now. This slip will be valid for 2 months, during which, the seller should have sent the registration document to the DVLA, which in turn, will send you the new registration document within 4 up to 6 weeks. If nothing received after six weeks, you should contact the DVLA.What happens with the registration documentsIs there an online check you can do to make sure the car hasnt been a write off or been stolen?
There is one called HPI check. Click here and read if you still can do it for 5p
Ideally, you should have done this before commiting to buy.
Good luck and happy motoring!
EDIT: As usual, I am too slow to post a reply, where as my friend, anewman is super fast! :rotfl:  :rotfl:
EDIT2: As it is being delivered now, ask a friend of yours who knows about cars to be there and don't part with any money untill you are satisfied with the car. Double check the ID of the seller with the registered keeper on the V5 document, preferably, a driving licence so you can compare the address as well.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0
