Try starting the PC and log into the Bios Usually F2 or Del on startup
and see if it is being seen in the Bios i.e How many Bytes showing
if none its usually a good indication that, HDD is Fried or not being recognised.0 -
Came up with the following:
Cylenders: 16383
Heads: 16
Sectors: 63
Maximum Capacity: 8455MB
Total Sectors: 39179952
Max Capacity: 20060MB
I should add that it doesn't boot from any of the devices / media I posted in the OP.0 -
How about changing the boot sequence so that it boots from CD,HDD,then Floppy A:\
if applicable, do this Via the Bios again and go to advanced features then save and exit usually F10.....
P.S what PC is it i.e Make Model XP etc etc.0 -
Have tried that - Won't boot from anything.
It's an eMachines something or other, bout 3 years old with XP home0 -
If you knew the model you might be able to find out the HDD make
and a Bios Upgrade maybe, but with a HDD make you can run a few tests
I would suggest finding out the PCs Model number.0 -

You can insert that info on this site for help
And also burn this as an ISO file so you can run a HDD test http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/ or get just the test file here http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/shdiag.htm.
Read the instructions for burning the disc and using0 -

Can't burn anything - Burner is on PC that won't boot!
I'm on the laptop now0 -
Whereabouts in the power up/boot sequence does it hang?
Sounds like you can get into the bios to change the boot sequence.
Sounds like it could be any of duff PSU, CPU, mobo or memory. If it wont boot from floppy or CD then it's unlikely to be hard disk. Have you tried clearing CMOS on your mobo?
